Hey, I finally decided and I am going to go ahead and get a Macbook. I am 15, and not rich, so it was really hard for me to save this money, I saved 700 bucks, and have 600 on credit with my uncle, gotta pay 50 a month for a year. I hope I can get a perfect one I worked soo hard and can't wait to go get it. I think I will get a T2500 model one and up the ram to 1.25 gigs until I can get 2 gigs. I can't wait!!! I also want to get a wired keyboard and mighty mouse, and that stand for it and set it up so it looks sooo awesome!!! I thank everyone on Notebookreview.com for all your help and resourceful information. I really appreciate it and can not wait!!! You guys are awesome, and I will include a review like a week after I get it!!!!Even tho it sounds gay, love you all,!!!!
-
Congrats! I am sure you will love it! Two suggestions. One, work the heck out of it for the first 2 weeks. Your return period is 14 days and you want to make sure that if something goes wrong you can exchange it for a new one and not have to send it for service. Two, skip the Mighty Mouse and get a Kensington PilotMouse, they are mcuh better. Good luck!
-
Thanks for the advice, I really like the mighty mouse and want to have a clean apple only place with my ipod and lappy, or else I would get a gaming mouse or something.
-
Cool, hope you enjoy it.
I'd have to second cashmonee's advice about the Mighty Mouse, but if you really like it, more power to you.
Just for what it's worth, being a Mac user doesn't mean you have to be all "Apple only" with everything. Plenty of Mac users buy third party mice, keyboards, monitors, etc. etc. etc.
So I mean, buy a Mighty Mouse if you really like it, but don't feel like you have to or need to get one just because it's Apple's mouse. Really, especially when it comes to mice, Mac users have been buying third party mice with normal extra mouse buttons, etc. for a long time. -
Take good care of that new Macbook, and it shall take good care of you.
We're still here to help you out if you need something. -
congrats you won't regret it -
Congrats on saving up and all. -- If you have any friends or family in college, you can score on the educational discount too- And the free Ipod nano, If you don't want/need it, you can always sell that to recoup some income to go towards more ram.
If you are picking one up from a store, I suggest you keep an eye on the serial number- it is more likely that you will get a problemless one if you get the "latest" production week.
Yeah, I use a logitech MX400 mouse with my macbook. For ram, if your comfortable doing so you may want to go somewhere like Newegg, it is considerably cheaper and just as good as Apple- I myself have 2gbs of Transcend JetRam = 180$. And it works great +Lifetime warranty on the ram.
I'm also waiting to pick up a Hitachi 5K160, 160gb harddrive for about 180$, which is more space, and cheaper than what you find from apple. Users say it is quieter, produces less heat, and uses less energy than apple harddrives also. -
Thanks for all the replies!!!
My Mom is going back to college and is a teacher, so I can use her discount and she is getting the free ipod and getting a video, by paying the difference, for my Brother for a Birthday Gift. I also am probably going to get the free printer and use it or sell it for ram, as for HDD My desktop was a 80 gb one and I got like 65 gigs left, and this has all my games, programs, and xp pro + my music. -
And if your thinking about running 2 OS's, your gonna lose alotta space right off the bat. -
Ok I got it. I got the T2500 Model, with an Ipod Video Black for my brother. I got the White 2 GHz Model Macbook, the Wired Keyboard and Wired MightyMouse . I also got a printer. I am wondering can someone show me I have 80 bucks in my paypal account and want to add 1 gig of ram to my system, a 1 gig stick so I have 1.25 gigs of ram in total, can someone link me to one, I live in USA. Thanks ~Arman
ps. This MACBOOK ROCKS, ITS MY FIRST MAC AND IT KICKS ASS. -
Congrats! I am glad your initial impressions are good. Remember we will be her to answer all your questions so keep coming back!
-
Anyways, heres a link and what do you know its exactly 80 dollars, plus current has free three day shipping from FedEx ANNNND you can pay via paypal. G.Skill is pretty popular among overclockers because of the quality of it.

This is the exact ram I have for my macbook (except I have two of em) and it's FULLY compatible with the Macbook, dont believe me read the reviews on the site for it. -
ok Thanks for the responses. I just orded 1 Gig of that G.Skill ram you recommened. Now I am going to add that and take out 1 of the 2 256 mb of ram sticks. Is it possible for me to use the 1 gig and the 256 then later on get another of the same 1 gig so I will have 2 gig and they are both compatible and 667 ram? Thanks for the responses. Also I purchased a 13.3" macbook platinum messenger bag. It was a little over priced but my uncle payed for it ^^. It is awesome, it can fit my mighty mouse, the macbook, the remote, and the magsafe charger. Also should I clalibrate my battery today? I am currently still doing the needed software updates. OS X rocks, the keyboard is different but I will get used to it soon. I always press the caps On instead of A for some reason. I will do a review by monday hopefully. Thanks, if you have any important programs or updates that you can recommend it will be appreciated. Thanks

Hey, I have iAlertu on my Macbook, and I don't know how to use the remote to start up frontrow. How do you do it?
-
Awesome on getting that ram, its pretty sweet stuff it sped up my Macbook like heck when I put it in.
Since you live in california too, I would expect the ram to be at your door step tomorrow, as from the reviews I hear its VERY fast shipping out there. For me it takes two days to get something I order from newegg and thats stuff that either comes from Tennesse or Cali.
Just get all the latest updates from Apple.
Do the Battery calibration tonight, like a few hours before you go to bed just run it on battery and do the instructions in the user guide, that way when you wake up it'll be all calibrated for you.
Can't help you on the iAlert because I know nothing of it. -
ok, thanks. How do you use frontrow on the remote? Hold Menu?
-
You should just be able to press Menu and wait a few seconds (especially if your at 512MB) and it will come in.
I know that iAlert messes with the remote settings a bit just so it can have that car style alarm acitvation, that might be whats messing with it. -
ah ok. I hope my ram comes in tomarrow!!! The system seems to be running smooth, so I can't wait until I get 1 gig of ram. I am currently in the callibrating the battery process. I like the mightymouse its sooo cool, but it was over priced. I want to right a review of the macbook i got, + the messenger bag + details about the mouse ^^ . The wireless card seems to be working great, it picked up my signal in 1 secound and the boot up is extremely fast. I really like it. The sound is great as well if you want to listen to soft rock music. I just need AIM which I gotta find, and how to transfer my songs off my windows itunes, to my lappy.
-
iChat has aim already.
However I recommend Adium, it just don't have the webcam features yet, only iChat does. -
adium has msn messenger + aim? because those are the two messengers that I only use.
-
Adium has em all.
Aim, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, Google talk, .Mac, Bonjour, Lotus Sametime, Zephyr, Yahoo Japan, Gadu-Gadu, Jabber and Novell. -
lol, I don't even know what half of that is. I live in Cali, you really think my ram will be here tomarrow? That would be awesome, man I am loving this macbook. The heat is hot, but I have it on my lap right now, and it's only hot in the left top portion of the lappy, probably where the cpu's are. It is very hot, but I think it is because the lappy needs to have a period where it is used and settles down. This macbook is the bomb!!! I love it.
-
Reason why I say tomorrow is because Newegg has a shipping facility in California (hence why you had to pay taxes, I dont have to pay taxes because newegg has no actual store or business in wisconsin) according to FedEX the city is called 'Industrial City' and its located in california. I've seen many reviews from people who live in cali that say they either received it the SAME day or the next day.
Don't take my word on it though, however I will say its a very good chance tomorrow you'll see it, if you check newegg and if you see they shipped it out today, I can say its fairly safe bet it will be tomorrow, if not the day after. -
how can I check if it shipped out what day?
-
Well I'm assuming you made an account on newegg, if you login you go to your account area and find Order Status link and click on that, each order goes by a step system, step 5 being the last step (shipped)
You'll understand it pretty quickly once your in your account area of the site. -
ok will do, off for the night.
-
ok i checked and it is at step 5, hopefully it is here tomarrow. I also am hoping that the installation is fairly easy, originally I heard it was really easy, as well with the harddrive, but now after reading reviews at newegg.com for ram they said it was fairly difficult putting it in. I never installed ram in a comp before yet a lone a laptop. Well of for thenight.
-
Hey, I checked on CoconutBattery 2.5 and it says my macbook is 6 weeks old, when i got it just 2 days ago, also the battery life is at 98% I just calibrated it, is 98% bad?
-
For example mine is 4H625
25 meaning the week it was made. -
4H631 Mine is a week 31, So is this kind of odd?
-
well if you divide 31 by 4 weeks in a month that gives you about close to 8 months, so really its only a few weeks old and its fine.
-
Ok great. Also my Ram should be here today, I am debating on wheter or not to take out 1 256 ram stick and keep 1 so I would have 1.25 GB of ram, or just take out both 256 sticks and just put the 1 gig stick? What is better? I am pretty sure that it is much better to put the 1 Gig stick with a 256. But then they won't be compatible or something. Thanks
~Arman -
I wouldnt worry about compatibility, as long as they are the right type of ram they should work fine. I'd go for 1.25GB more is always better
Be prepared for super speed xD -
Hey, I tried to open the screws to see how it will be when I get my ram, and I don't have a small enough screw driver. How did you open it? All my small one's are too big.
-
I have a set of screwdrivers that are small enough, bought it from walmart for 88 cents.
I think its reported um #1 err #0 was the size? I'm not sure maybe someone else can help on that. -
ok, I think Me and My uncle will go to home depot later on today. The screws are super small. Man This macbook screen is soo awesome I love it!!!
-
-
I read some of the review's and I am pretty sure someone posted it worked with his MBP.
-
-
what time does ups usually come, its 1 PM and the tracking says it's supposed to come today?
-
ok got my 1 gig, now all I need to do is get the right screw driver.
-
Ok, I went to Home Depot and waited for like 15 mins for the guy to find the size 0 screw driver, payed 6 bucks for it, came home and installed the ram, it was pretty simple, but not as easy as I thought it would be. Thanks for the help xbandaidx! First try and it worked and now is running at blazing fast speeds. 1.25 gb of ram @ 667 mhz!! I gonna hope to get another 1 gig stick before the school starts in september.
-
Thats good Ram. -
Yeah I can't wait till I get another 85 bucks in my paypal account!!! This lappy is flying now!!
Finally DECIDED GETTING MACBOOK Tomarrow!!!
