Read awhile back that this was a known issue with FF -- unsure about other browsers -- but it's certainly a silly problem to have. Sometimes, I just want to take a peek at a PDF, not have it sitting on my desktop.
How can I keep Firefox from saving every download no matter what I specify?

right now i'm using FF on a windows machine but the options should be the same or close enough. within FF's options, look for an "applications" tab. scroll to where you have your PDF Reader (preview, adobe, etc) and make sure in the drop down box the "save file" is not selected.

Right -- that's why I'm saying it's a known issue. I've always had FF set to "always ask" for nearly every file type, but even if I specify "open" because I just want to look at, but not save, whatever I'm downloading, the file is saved to the download folder anyway.

oh my bad; i thought you were talking about the downloads option under the main tab. i found this, might help ya or offer an idea:

Well... it seemed to be working, but I just went to desktop and found a bunch of files saved to my desktop that I never specified should be saved to desktop.
Firefox saving downloads even though "open" is specified, not "save" / "save as" -- fix?
