My 500GB WD USB Passport (for windows but I formatted for mac) played videos flawlessly. Then I got a similar LaCie portable drive that lagged randomly during video playback. I thought it was odd since reviews were great, but I returned it anyway. I now have a 1TB WD My Book Studio II. A similar lag problem is happening in videos (which play fine off my macbook pro). It is not as bad as the LaCie, but still annoying. I think it might be the energy save spin down, but how is that possible if playing a video file is accessing the drive? I really like this drive and do not want to keep switching, but I cant use my old passport because it does not have firewire and its making crazy beeping/clicking noises.
