There is a program called aMSN which in my opinion is much better it enables you to use all the things you can use with normal MSN on a windows computer. Such as cam, nudges, the text changes, and so on. Check it out here amsn-project.net/ I recommend it over mac:messenger but I'd keep that installed just incase cause sometimes the aMSN server messes up. Hope you enjoy![]()

I find adium is much better for everything except cam.
I rarely ever use my cam, so whenever I do need it, I fire up amsn or use vmware to boot up windows and use live messenger. -
I heard aMSN is pretty buggy at the moment...using adium right now, but if I close my macbook and re-open adium often as trouble re-connecting until I restart. Seems like there really aren't many good instant messaging programs on mac yet. MSN for mac works fine but its old and has like no features.
-
Yeah it's nice to use aMSN but like I said when it's being buggy I just pop-up mac:messenger I do like iChat though way better then when I used AIM. Runs way smoother and has nice features.

Never used g-talk, and I agree I think they should use iChat to run MSN with it'd be such a nice thing to have on there much less hassle then using a 3rd party messenger with bugs and ****.
-
yea i just stuck with the mac messenger. I have adium and ive tried the others, but mac messenger does what i need it to do, and i dont particularly like the whole tabbed conversations in adium (And yea i know i can turn it off, but just too lazy)

aMSN supports groups. That's why I like it so much it's basically MSN as if you were on a windows computer using MSN
-
aMSN for me was crashy and not very fast. It seemed like a bad port.
Out of all the MSN clients I tried, only the MS Messenger one seems to work "right" even with its limitations. -
just go to Contact -> Sort Contacts by -> Groups
aMSN's interface is really annoying and very messy..
i just sticked to messenger mac
however, what annoys me is that my friends display pictures dont show up to me..
does anyone how to solve this? -
I use msn to contact my friend, but when it comes to video chatting, it is a better choice if we can use skype!
-
I use Adium as well, unfortunately it can't do webcam well. But by far better than MSN Messenger for Mac, I have terrible experiences with that. Its unfortunate how far behind Mac Messenger is compared to the Windows Live Messenger.
I agree that iChat with MSN would be great. I actually wonder if it is something between Microsoft and Apple; suppose Microsoft and Apple signed an agreement that should Microsoft develop Office for Mac (which benefits Apple more than it does for Microsoft), then Apple's own chat client can't support MSN, because Microsoft wants more people using their software as part of the deal. My assumption. -
Sometimes if you open their window, and maybe talk to them a bit it will load it, but not always. Kinda sucks, but meh. -

That'd be nice to have. mac:messenger is way less buggy then aMSN but I thought it'd be nice for those who didn't know about it. It's a little more close to the actual windows MSN but like someone previously stated if you want to cam use skype, but the problem is most people I talk to don't have it they use MSN for cam to cam.

I'm using Adium at the moment. I really like the way it works but the file transfer for me seems very buggy. I liked Proteus too but that didn't support file transfer at all.
Mac:Messenger is alright to me but I don't like how it forces all new messages to open immediately unless I disable notifications which then doesn't let me know at all. -

I've been a longg time user of MSN for Mac but just a week ago, I finally got really fed up with it and switched to Adium. It's pretty nice, although I really did prefer MSN for Mac - if only there were more features and less bugs. I find aMSN super buggy.
-
Yeah I do agree it is buggy but it has potential it all depends on what version you're using honestly. i only use Adium for the xfire plugin for mac which I actually got rid of today.
-
i use Adium and love it. However, i dont understand why Adium does not support web chat....
-
I'm new to adium and its pretty good, but I find the connection a bit flaky (but that might just be my internet connection/wireless in general). I'm going back and forth between the two.
-
I usually use aMSN but if starts acting buggy I switch up to mac:messenger kinda avoid adium like I said I got rid of it today.
-
Okay I've decided I might give adium a 2nd chance cause I only used it for the xfire plugin before so I might give it a chance
-
Adium is open source software. No one is being paid to develop it, therefore video chat won't be implemented until the team or someone else comes along and puts in the hard work to implement this kind of functionality in code....for free. Be patient, or better yet, learn C + Objective-C/Cocoa and implement it! -
I prefer skype for video chat over iChat. I just like it's setup better.
-
Any one ever try Mercury Messenger? It does give you video capabilities and it's been pretty good for me. I don't see it mentioned much, but it's a pretty good program.
-
Never heard of it is it similar to to the whole MSN messenger idea?

I've tried it a little bit, but didn't like it too much... went back to Messenger for Mac.
-
Who made it?
EDIT: Ew dear god I typed that question horrid. What company produced it? -
The two features most important to me are offline messaging and message history. Which mac msn clients support these and work well?
-
None support offline messaging as far as I know. Thats the one feature I want them to put in, but they never have.
Message History? you mean logs? I think that most support it, atleast im pretty sure the official msn does. -
For those who use mac:messenger
