The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. lol yes, i would prefer having no antivirus as i think an antivirus would increase the temperature of my mac. also i think there are only one or two os x viruses out there.

I agree, but in a slightly different way to the oft-touted 'Macs don't need antivirus' chorus. Truth is, if you aren't a born-again-Switcher-to-be, you don't need an antivirus on a PC either.

There are other more prevalent threats to your computer these days, and Macs aren't invulnerable to those. Application (especially browser)-based hijackings, etc. There are apps which deal with this on Windows, but not, yet, on OS X. this is something I'd like to see - but I think the complacency hasn't worn off yet, as it's a top-down process. Apple isn't security-focused, and they need to be, especially as people who're starting to hackintosh out there are slowly but surely realising the easy pickings that Mac users represent.

Why pay for something that's not needed? That's like buying a shotgun to protect against mosquitos, overkill, but thanks for the heads up anyway. :p
