Well guess what, I was invited to this diabetes fundraiser thing and some people on the committee managed to get 5 brand new MBPs donated for the event. They are the 2.4 GHz models!! I have no idea how they managed that.
But anyways, they are being raffled off. Tickets are $5 each and I bought 20 tickets. There are about 500 people who entered, so Im technically I think I have a better shot than anyone else who bought just 1 ticket..I hope.
Anyway, if I win one I think I might donate/give my current one away to either a member on this forum who actually needs one..preferably a student who cant afford one but needs one for school, or I may just sell it. But I would feel guilty if I sold it, this whole thing was for diabetes and helping others...so most likely Ill give it away.
The draw is in about 2 hours, right after the dinner party. I will post if I won or not.

Well, good luck ToshibaDude
. I'd say you sell it and donate it back to the Diabetes Association. I'm sure they'll appreciate it
.
-
Whatever you choose, be it selling it to donate the proceeds back to the diabetes foundation, or if you give it away to a deserving student; either decision is good. Props to you.
-
I wouldn't give it away just because you'd feel guilty.
I think though that selling it and donating the proceeds to the charity would be a really amazing thing to do.
EDIT: Sorry, I meant selling your current MBP and donating the proceeds to the charity. -
Good luck Toshibadude...shouldn't you change your name to AppleDude?
Speaking of laptops, zadillo man, when are you going to get your 2.4 already?
-
Heh, sometime soon, although I'm leaning back towards a 2.2GHz model (I am thinking about what I'm really going to use it for, and I don't think I'd be doing much gaming with it, so I'd be fine with being limited to whatever will run well with the 128MB VRAM 8600M GT when I do want to game with the laptop).
-
Good luck to you then!
And yea, you should sell your current MacBook Pro and give to a diabetes association! -
I may do actually do that, great suggestion! 52 minutes to go
-
Sell one of the machines on eBay and give the proceeds to the association itself. Best.
-
I wish I could find somewhere to get a free MacBook Pro, but the place I'm buying it from offers a "lifetime" warranty on it, if something happens to the hardware or software for 200 bucks extra, that not to mention the 1 year apple warranty. So I won't complain spending 2700 for a notebook covered.
-
I got this MacBook for free
. It was the prize of a contest I won. No, not the "lucky winner" contests, more like competition contest
.
-
I want a MacBook or a Compal or both ugh!
Good luck Toshiba dude
Lynn -
good luck toshibadude... wish i get a chance to get one of those free too...
-
good luck with the contest! if I didn't already have a computer I would say win win win! I wouldn't mind a MBP for school
I am looking towards buying one when Leopard comes out, although I already have other Mac Machines i use at the school and elsewhere.
i don't think I could accept something like that for free, I would have to do something for whoever was providing it.
good luck! -
good luck with the contest! Let us know what you decide to do with it.
-
I would really suggest that if you win, sell the laptop and then donate the money back to the foundation. Giving it to a student is a nice thought, but students can get by without a laptop (I did!), where as people with a sickness don't have a lot of options.
Plus there would be some really good karma in it for you.
Good luck! -
The suspense is killing me!
I think you should either keep both, or sell the one you want, and keep the money. thats just what i would do. OR i might sell it and give the money to the foundation. MAYBE.
I definitely wouldnt give it away. no one as ever "given" me anything. i have to work for all my stuff, including eating ramen noodles in school.
thats just me, you're a better man than i.
-
I wish I was rich...
-
That would be awesome getting a MBP for free.
I'm gonna end up spending a large majority of what I make working this summer on my computer. Winning one would have made my life so much easier... haha. -

some students can get by without a laptop. for me, its a school requirement. in fact, the specs you have to get are pretty crazy up to date.
minimum of 2 gigs of ram, core 2 duo, 160 gig hard drive... a bunch of other requirements.
it depends on what you are going to school for.
fortunately i can afford the things i will need for college. im sure a ton of people could make really good use of your old mbp! -
unfortunately i DIDNT win....oh well. I had the most tickets in there lol, ironic.
By the looks of it 2 or 3 went striaght into the hands of college students and the other couple were won by middle aged parents. I talked one of the older people into selling it and donate back the money to the organization, at least that helps. I was going to do the same anyway, so win win. hopefully diabetes will be cured soon. -
I'm really sorry Toshiba Dude! But I'm glad that people on this forum have a heart!
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
ah yeah that sucks.
but its not ironic at all... irony is something totally else...
but i was rooting for you bud. -
ToshibaDude how much do you think you'll be selling the laptop for?
-
He didn't win.
-
The money you spent on those tickets went to a good cause
