So, this Wednesday is the big day. Im going to get my 13" MBP (2.26). Im going in store and will be using the education discount. Now, will I be able to get a free iPod in the store as well, or will I have to do it like I would have to do it online? (ie. pay for it then get rebate in mail). Mind you, I am in Canada. Thanks for your help. :)

You have to buy the iPod in the store at the same time (they both have to be on the same invoice) and you then get a mail-in-rebate for the 8GB iPod amount (You can get any iPod but you'll get credit for the value of the 8GB). So yes, you do get to take the iPod home right away.

They do have an option now though where you give them your bank details for a direct deposit of the MIR instead of waiting for a check in the mail; it's faster and more secure. You just have to bring in your bank account details or just a blank check (that'll have everything on it).

Oh okay, thanks. So there's no way to get it free in the store. You have to pay and do the rebate.

Yes, you have to pay for it, then you send in the mail in rebate.

I know about paying for it and getting the rebate, but I thought that if I purchased the MBP in store, I wouldnt have to do the rebate thing and get the iTouch free.

It is only for brand new Macbooks, not refurbs.

You can only do it by rebate. Keep this in mind, also, when you are doing Christmas shopping. I have friends that bought stuff "cheap" because there were rebates -- then promptly forgot to mail in the rebates.

It's not underhanded (most times), but the rebate system has been used by the retail industry for years to increase sales and income. If you're aware and prompt about taking care of your rebates, no problem for you. You just have to have the funding available at the time of purchase for both items.
