This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Free mac email account?

    the mail program has an option for .mac

    I only have free email accounts. Yahoo, hotmail, and gmail.

    Does apple give free email accounts that work with the email program?

    no.

    Gmail supports POP though, which works with mail.app. i'm sure yahoo and (less sure) hotmail have support for that sort of thing too.

    I will have to check out googles faq's then and try to figure it out. It would be nice to have a pop email for a change.

    .Mac has a free trial period of two months, but after that you have to pay or it goes inactive.

    I use Gmail through Mail.app just fine, there are very specific instructions on how to set it up in the Gmail help pages.

    don't use .mac, it's not free and it's not valuable enough to pay for it
    better use gmail which is free and really great
