Hi i have used Tiger in the past but i am new to Leopard. With Tiger you were able to delete the keyboard layouts you did not need and the extra language packs.
With Leopard on first glances it does not seem that this is possible. I know in the past that i have been able to recapture about 5GB of space by removing the extra things that i did not need.
Also i have a Canon printer and have no need for any extra drivers.

So does anybody have any tips for saving HD space?

    Thanks

Just a quick warning: In case anyone considers using Monolingual to free up space under Leopard, they'd be strongly advised against doing that.

According to several testimonials, (and at least one 'expert' comment on the reasons why, for which the link I can't find) Monolingual isn't quite compatible with Leopard's way of classifying/storing things, and it could wreak havoc with your system.

I just used Monolingual today, didn't seem to screw anything up - but that's why I use Time Machine as well ;-) What did you hear Monolingual was doing under Leopard? As in, would I have seen a catastrophic failure right away, or might I just have caused some slow-moving problem to start that I won't realize is a big issue until later?

This is a bit embarrassing for me, since I can't find the exact link where this was cogently explained. If you just type something along the lines of "monolingual under leopard" on Google, you do get a number of testimonials on forums, blogs, etc., that it's risky business; but, there's no clear cut argument as to why that might be so.

The impression I had got, reading that article which I can no longer find (maybe it was in Turkish, I should check), was that it could mess up applications right away; so my *guess* is that if you're doing fine right now, you have nothing to worry about.

Still, the Monolingual webpage doesn't even mention 10.5, so maybe it's worth waiting a bit more, so that a "certified", safe version come out.

Funny you should say this -- I just ran Monolingual and found I had to reload all of my Adobe apps...PS, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional, etc. They couldn't/wouldn't open otherwise. Fair warning.

Otherwise, I freed up over 300MB.

Now we seem to have a NBR testimonial to its riskiness.

Well, reinstalling is a breeze with MacOS, so luckily it wasn't too great of an inconvenience! :)
