Hey guys, I have come across a couple other threads on different forums about the Macbook Pro and connecting an external CRT display. Seems that people are getting the same results as me.

I have a 19" Dell P990 UltraScan Color Monitor ... and no matter what resolution or refresh rate I put on it, it's all fuzzy. Looks freaking wonderful on my Windows XP machine ... but not as an external monitor on my Macbook Pro.

Is this just a common problem with external CRTs and the Macbook Pro? I was thinking about getting a LCD display today, but I'm afraid of going and spending the money and getting the same results.

Are you getting this same fuzziness as me? What are your results, both LCD and CRT?

    Thanks for any comments/help.

Two resolution panels should pop up in System preferences after you connect the monitor, you sure you are changing the resolution on the correct panel?
And my Macbook connects fine to my 32" HDTV @ 1366 x something resolution.

As Budding said, be sure you are changing the resolution on the CRT and not on the MBP. Other than that, I really don't know why that problem would exist. On another note, if you use the computer a lot, an LCD is a great upgrade. Much easier on the eyes, and it should work great with the MBP.

The monitor has a VGA connection, so I'm using the DVI to VGA adapter.

I attach the cable, then turn my monitor on and I go to the system pref -> display and set the VGA resolution that way ... and it still looks kinda fuzzy. It looks like it needs to be much crisper, but I have no setting to tweak that. I've got the contrast up pretty high as well ... hmmmm, I hope that my DVI isn't screwed or something.
