I noticed that older games run craptacular on the new Intel Macs. I'm not a big computer gamer but wanted to see how well the MBP can handle a couple game demos. I found a page on macrumors that shows what games are made for the Intel chip: http://guides.macrumors.com/Universal_Binary_Games
Battlefield 2142 looks cool but I can't find the Mac demo![]()
Do you guys have any recommendations?
Thanks!

My recommendation...
Install Windows XP via Boot Camp to play games and update your graphic drivers at LaptopVideo2Go. -
I also recommend this. If you're going to be playing games on it you should really use Windows.
-
Yeah. Bootcamp with Vista is best. Gives you access to all the Windows games.
-
I plan on doing that when I get a larger capacity hard drive.. right now I only have 120GB with just 56GB free space. What do you guys recommend, Parallels, Bootcamp, or something else?
-
lol, mac's don't have good game support... just install windows via bootcamp.
-
Using parallels would render games unplayable. You HAVE to use Boot Camp.
-
Thanks for the heads up Arquis!
-
I have bootcamp installed, and I play games using that.
But it also is a pain sometimes to restart into windows to play games, so some games that are native are really appreciated.
2142 is a good game, and Quake 4 was also good in mac. I think they released the lego star wars games in osx as well, but not sure.
But yea, eventually get bootcamp. -
Don't games tend to perform noticeably better on Windows than OS X if you use the LaptopVideo2Go drivers though?

Haha yea you would get single digit frame rates running games in Parallels or VMware. Like everyone else I would recommend going for Boot Camp to play games. When EA first released their games their were numerous problems and I'm not sure if they resolved them yet but I'd seriously avoid any Mac games.
-
Unless they're made by Blizzard.... Blizzard always comes through lol.
-
Games tend to run on Windows. Nuff said.

to answer the question, games made for both platforms do tend to run better in windows regardless of whether laptopvideo2go drivers or the default boot camp drivers are used.
still highly rec. lv2go for the increase in performance. -
I can see the nice, shiny new starcraft 2 icon in my dock. Can't wait.
-
WoW on my OSX is pretty nice
...
If you want to play any game other then that, install Windoze lol. -
which is better to install in bootcamp vista or xp?
Could the 8600 handle direct-x 10? -
thnksfrthmmrs Notebook Evangelist
I would go for XP now as games on XP are supposed to have better performance. The 8600 can handle direct x 10 but that's Vista only. Currently I don't see any games that seem to have better performance using DX 10. -
XP is supposed to have better performance but I play in Vista just fine. Also DX10 is useless as of right now, and the 8600, although it supports DX10 will not be able to play games at acceptable frame rates in DX10 mode. Which doesn't matter because DX10 is pretty useless, and DX9 performance is rediculously better. Hell, visit the gaming section, and you'll see no one really even uses it! lol. The 8800 even has some trouble with it.

Consoles have better games...flat out. PC games sales tanked last year worse than ever and its been going down hill for 7 years now. There was 18 billion in games sales in 2007. Just under 900million was PC games.
If you are going to game, get a 360 especially if you like MP gaming.
Dedicated Video cards in a notebook are a total waste. They eat up battery and produce heat/noise from cooling fans. The x3100 in the Macbook is more than enough for anything else besides games.
To bad they dont make a MBP with integrated graphics. -
You do realize that the MBP get's the same or more time on battery than the MB right? You do realize the MBP runs just as quiet as a MB doing the same tasks right? They aren't a total waste, as they're not only used for gaming. The real waste would be having a "pro" line with a weak ass X3100. Ever cross your mind people need better video performance? After all... Macs Pro lines are used by, get this, "professionals" who are usually in some kind of visual or musical business.
(And btw it's people like you who are killing the PC gaming industry. ) -
Here we go with the console vs PC debate...
O lawds... -
How odd for it to sprout up on a Mac forum.
-
Oblivion runs pretty decent n my MBP with 256 MB.
Here's a little movie trailer with one of my latest characters, Snoop Dogg!
