Any lucky guys owning both? I have the core 2 duo X1600 128MB one. When I do gaming with my MBP, the fan is quite loud (yes, I am picky).

I am seriously thinking to get the new MBP because of the LED screen. Anyone here can tell methe noise level of the new MBP with 8600GT vs core 2 duo MBP with X1600, so I can make the decision...... NOW?

I have the new (Santa Rosa) MBP 2.4GHz 15.4". I'm running Boot Camp 1.3 Beta and Vista x86 Ultimate for Gaming. So far I've played Tomb Raider: Anniversary and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - my fans quickly get loud when I start a game, although the MBP does not physically feel hot.

Game performance is top notch with the 256MB 8600m GT, but the excessive fan noise make me nervous, should I be? I should note that I'm not really sure what the normal fan behavior is for the MBP, in case you cannot tell from my skepticism!

When not gaming, everything is quiet and nice, especially in OSX - very quiet. Also, the LED is brilliant (in the British sense of the word), you should go the an Apple Store and have a look, they're impressive.

I'm also interested in hearing about the MBP's fans from other users in both XP and Vista while running games.

i bought the exact laptop that you did. im running 32bit xp pro - fastest gaming possible at the moment ;)

i will say the fans definitely spin up during gaming. and the thing gets hot too, especially on the bottom. hot enough that i am officially removing the battery before doing any gaming, ever.

benzman, i could actually probably do a dB test to see how loud it gets using the internal mic to record. we could both use the same program and settings to set the mic to record- then fire up a CSS video stress test- and compare loudness.

the fans are set on voltage. The fans were designed to easily accommodate there selected speed for years. Many fans still run fine after a decade of use on a processor.

Wouldn't a cooling pad solve this issue? I'm a notebook novice over here but I'm trying to use common sense here....

Im thinking a cooling pad would keep the notebook at a cooler temp, hence less need for fan to work itself over?

I have a core 2 duo but I use it with a cooling pad so it doesn't heat up as much as it use to

Months late here...but my understanding is the Macbook Pro won't run at full speed with it's battery removed. Underclocks the CPUs to their minimum (1GHz, I think-which would still be usable for normal desktop stuff, but not ideal for gaming!).

Seriously, if a thread is more than 1-2 months old, just let it go to rest. If this "revive old, (somewhat) irrelevant threads" trend continues, the moderators may have to start closing down threads. And that's not good.
