Looks decent, but I don't think it will pose any threat to the iMac. Apple Insider has a bit more information. It seems that with the "comparable" models between the One and iMac, Apple actually has better prices and better hardware!
-
Hmm... maybe now that there's something to compare the iMac to people wont keep saying it's over priced.
Apple does an amazing job of fitting the most high end equipment into a very sleek package for a very reasonable price. On top of that you get a great OS, and spectacular customer support.
Anybody else immediately see the Jay Leno chin that apples been fighting so hard to remove in that Gateway? -
just from my point of view... I'd need to get the imac out of these two due to the amount of crap on my desk! I'd never get a CD/DVD in the drive without some serious reorganisation!!!!
-
What I do like about the Gateway One is more and easier user serviceability. Other than that, I'd say the iMac does the job much better in nearly every other category.
-
Only two ways I would get a Mac: I would get the iMac or Mac Mini for my parents, or I would get a Mac laptop. In the world of laptops, you throw user customization and upgradeability out the window with any choice, so why not go with a Mac? Especially if you like the OS and design. But when it comes to a desktop, I just couldn't conceivably purchase a desktop from anyone that I couldn't take apart and upgrade, repair myself. Thus being I would only buy an iMac for my parents, or if it was a really good buy (like the deal Vivek got on his). The Gateway One has a leg up there. But then again, it's also a Vista-based computer, so subtract both legs, and I guess I just wouldn't buy either one.

The Gateway One has more chin to its name.
-
Eh...
I'd be more willing to bite if this came from a company like....Asus... (although lately, what Asus has been doing hasn't been very encouraging).
Then again, I think every single notebook maker out there has failed abysmally with the DX10/SR refresh machines this time around...so maybe this'll be refreshing. -
The one in the kitchen is drawing power wirelessly.
-
That statement made me notice all the apples in the kitchen.
Hmmm, coincidence? -
I see a power cable hidden on its left and running behhind the apples backet?? Wireless power, I like that!
-
So is the iMac.
-
Yep, I must say, without that deal, I wouldn't have even looked at an iMac, much less actually bought one.
It kinda bugs me that the iMac doesn't come standard with a wireless keyboard, since half the point of AIOs is to reduce cable clutter. The competing AIOs have it standard....
Gateway One, huh?
