At the moment I'm running an early 2008 15.4" MBP w/ the 2.5GHz C2D, GeForce 8600M GT, 4GB RAM and all the other goodies. What I need to know - and soon - is how the GeForce 320M on the current 13" models compares to the GeForce 8600M GT I'm running in this unit that's nearly three years old.

I do a little bit of video editing in Premiere (720p and smaller) just a few hours a month and a lot of Photoshop and Lightroom. Other than that it's just the normal day to day tasks. Would I take a hit "upgrading" to the 13" MBP? How much of hit? I need to quickly replace this current system because AppleCare runs out March 21 (or thereabouts). I would like a smaller computer, so I was thinking about the 2.4GHz 13" MBP w/ 4GB RAM, so pretty much all specs remain the same aside from the video processor. My only alternative to switching computers is to let AppleCare run out while hoping this computer doesn't have a second major problem...and if it did, take it to State Farm and say I dropped it or something. I love this computer to death, so it's not like I'm dying to get rid of it - I just want a smaller computer while updating AppleCare.

    Thanks!

This topic has been discussed in numerous forums, including MacRumors. Probably best to do a search before posting.

Here is a similar post with a discussion about a couple of different cards, including the two you mention.

How is this urgent? Seems like you have a month to make up your mind. There might be new models available before you have to decide what to do :p

long story short - basically the same performance.

Got it. I just wasn't able to find anything via Google, so I decided to quickly hit up a relevant forum and didn't think to search specific forums first.

Yeah that's what I'm finding - nearly identical performance with only slight differences. You think the new models will be released March 1st like everyone is speculating? My concern is a) not being able to get a new model discounted (refurb @ $999) and b) not getting as much for my current unit. It would almost be just as effective to purchase one now and maybe upgrade six months (or even a year) down the road. Thoughts?

    Got it. Thanks!
