Hi, i ordered my macbook pro just yesterday and it should come in about a week or so. I'm new to mac and I have some questions that i hope can be answered.
Configuration:
2.0GHz Intel Core Duo Processor
2 GB of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 memory
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics processor 256MB GDDR3
100GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
1. If you install Win XP, can you switch back and forth from Mac and XP with ease? because i'm thinking about using Mac for school work and Windows for gaming and stuff.
2. I heard that the graphics card is underclocked. How do you OC it?
3. Is it easy to install Win XP?
-
1.Yeah, but you have to shut down the machine to do it.
2.You can't with Mac software, not sure about while bootcamping.
3.Yeah, just as easy as installing regular stuff really. -
However be warned. It has happened to some people that after doing the Boot Camp with Windows, it erased OS X. And Apple has no support for this at the time. So if this was to happen, you should try and reinstall OS X.

Thanks for the info!

About OCing: It is possible to do in Windows, however, I've read some pretty nasty stories about what can happen: Some person fried his GPU doing it, another guy scorched the table he was using his MBP on, and someone else fried the MagSafe power input becuase conditions got so hot. I highly recommend using a cooling pad if your going to be doing any OCing with the MBP.

Whoa.. Thanks for the heads up about the OC. Oh and btw, the Maximum Operating Altitude of Macbook Pro is said to be 10,000 feet. Does this mean that i can't use this on a plane?
-
Planes are pressurized to ~8000ft altitude by the engines. Outside, around 13,000ft you can start to become asphixiated if not acclimated (people have climbed Everest @29,000ft+ w/o any oxygen tanks, but normals humans can't).
Even if you did travel above 10,000ft, you'd probably be fine. I've only heard of Plasma tv's having problems (popping) at altitude. It's like the temperature limits...most people don't follow them and are problem free.
Just keep in mind that bootcamp is a beta and that restarting to switch operating systems might become a pain if you do it enough...There are more realistic options than the Macbook Pro...but none as nice. -
My guess is in a pressurized cabin, the conditions are nearly the same as on the ground but I'm not really qualified to answer this question... interesting though...
