Macbook Pro has my vote... unless you have a thing for underpowered laptops that need to rely on "real" laptops to have basic functions, and like to keep them in manila envelopes.

I just got the macbook air and I love it. You have to make sure you know what you want though. I needed a thin and light apple notebook for travelling with the primary use being writing. I don't even need the internet that much, and without wireless or bluetooth, I get around 5 hours of battery life. I was afraid that the base model would feel sluggish but in all honesty it's fine and does not feel slow by any means. For me the macbook air fits the bill perfectly.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a multimedia powerhouse, the macbook air is not for you. I already have a decent desktop running Linux that I can use for all of me serious computing needs (and for the really serious computing, all I need is the terminal...).

That being said, it was kind of hard to resist the pro, but I did and I happy about my choice. If you were going to get the pro, I'd wait a little to see if it gets updated soon.

    Good luck!

One more thing to add: if you get the air, be prepared for a lot of stares and people coming up to you asking about the laptop. I was on a flight a few days ago and the flight attendant asked me if she could hold me laptop! She was really interested about the laptop and asked me a whole bunch of questions about it... It kind of makes me not want to take it out sometimes!

Last post... If you are thinking of paying the big bucks for the ssd version, you might want to reconsider. Check out anand's great review over here http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=3226
You might end up paying more money for less performance since the SSD is a crippled PATA version! Sure, the laptop boots faster, but you'll probably never need to reboot (I just put mine into standby which is instant).

Definitely the 15.4-inch MBP unless you really must have the MBA, in my opinion.

MBP gets another vote from me!
I played with a MBA today... and although it does give off that "WOW it's so THIN" impression, the MBP is definitely much more practical. Actually, even the MacBook is much more practical...
