Used unlocked (it's really easy to unlock an iPhone once it's Jailbroken) 8GB iPhones are going for around $350-$400 on eBay (that'll change closer to the release of the iPhone 3G), so if you want to give up your first-gen iPhone for a month you'll make $200 and get an iPhone 3G for free. Don't forget to use your early adopter credit, if you didn't already, then you'll be able to pocket $300 and get a free iPhone 3G! I wish I could be without my iPhone for a month, but it's hard to give it up during the summer. I'll try selling it early July. It could still be going for high prices then, but I know with my $100 early adopter credit I'll still get the iPhone 3G without paying a cent no matter when I sell my first one (between now and then).
Here's the last iPhone auction that ended a minute ago:

$370 for an unlocked, used 8GB iPhone. Amazing deal for the seller.

Huh? Kinda unsure what you mean.
Though I should sell mines too soon, I've been using it as a MP3 player only, but I have contacts, calendars and music on it that I find pretty useful to have around. -

If you sell your iPhone now, you'll make a lot of money on eBay. There's a few reasons people would buy it now at such great prices:
You get cheaper data plans on the 2G iPhone, great for people that don't have 3G in their area.
It'll take a while before 3G iPhones can be unlocked to be used on other carriers, and Apple is really limiting unlocking by forcing you to activate your iPhone 3G before you can leave the store with it.
First-gen iPhones are sold out everywhere, and with the reasons above, once it's gone, it's gone. People want to be able to use an iPhone on different carriers and (though not as important) get cheaper data plans if they don't have 3G where they live and the only way to get the first-gen iPhone is to bid on it. -

one catch- that 200 dollar iphone comes with a 2 YEAR (or 3 year?) SERVICE contract.
if you already have a contract, you aren't getting an iphone for $200. -
I'm quite happy with what I got. I see no reason to upgrade. Besides I'm T-Mobile and where I live I got no chance of getting mobile broadband.

Lol Zaz, whats up with you and that cartoony naked guy? He is like in everyone of your avatars! -

Yep and the new contract has a more expensive data plan
Good idea but probably not worth the hassle, and ebay is always give and take on how much you can/will make if any at all.
Also you didnt factor in the money ebay and paypal took from that guy. -
Im keeping my Iphone and gonna buy the 3G. Keeping the old one to start a collection of apple phones. from Iphone, Iphone 3G, Iphone V3(or w/e the name will be), ect...

these data plans, are they for USA countries or for all countrues as we (UK) are getting PayG (Pay As You Go) version will we still need to have these data plans, that sound very much like a contract phone?

1) What is the penalty price for terminating an iPhone contract?
Sprint is telling me my A900 phone has an early termination penalty of $150 which to me ain't so bad, compared to paying $480, the total of monthly payments until my Sprint contract expires in February.
2) Can I pay bills and credit cards via internet on my new 3G iPhone like I do on my computer?
3) Can I transfer pics from my laptop to the iphone to be uploaded by iPhone to photobucket or some other photo website? -

What a misleading topic.

im missing my GEN1, but i got what i paid for it, 5months after i bought it.
no complaints there. Ill use my crummy 15$ gophone until then -
If you were already an AT&T customer, most likely buying the iphone did not extend your contract so if you go online and login to your account you will see that you are eligible for an upgrade.
