It will depend on your preference and where you plan to use it. Glossy screens give deeper, richer colours, nice for viewing photos and movies, but are reflective. If you plan to use your MacBook Pro outside and directly over light (in an office, for example) then it may be tough to use due to the reflections you see.

Matte has no reflections but colours aren't as vibrant as shown on glossy. However, this may be an advantage if you do a lot of colour printing, as with matte "what you see is what you get".

As Sam said... it's quite a personal preference... if there's an apple store in town .. i'ld suggest you go and have a look for yourslf and find which one you like more...

Yeah, there isn't an Apple Store here in Vancouver (where dell111 and I live) :(. Although rumours are pointing at an Apple Flagship Store opening soon :).

Can't you order from Apple's Canada Online Store? You can get the free iPod there.

I am generally anti-glossy - I'm not a fan of glare. However, on the new MBP I ordered 10 days ago (why is it taking so long to ship?), I got the glossy. The glossy screens on the MBP seem to be very high quality and not terribly reflective while providing the richer colors associated with that type of screen. So I would say even if you generally dislike glossy screens, try to go see one on the MBP in action so you can really make a decision specific to this computer.

I don't pay attention to the reflections. I'm too distracted by the beautiful contrast of the glossy screen. Sure, matte screens are anti-glare, but they just don't compare to the colors of the glossy screens.

    get the glossy.

I like the glossy. Side by side, the glossy blows the matte away. Colors are richer and deeper, and blacks are blacker. The reflection issue isn't a big one for me. If you're about to buy, I would seriously go to an Apple Store and check each out, preferably side-by-side. It's a matter of personal taste to be sure, but assume that matte being better is some sort of holy doctrine: it isn't. It depends on what you do with your machine, where you use it, and, most importantly, what you happen to like better.

I just noticed, chant, your signature looks very vaguely familiar to mine ;).

I personally prefer the glossy, but there are two main issues that I see where matte one-ups glossy: constantly working under the sun or in bright bright rooms where lights are shining directly overhead. That may be annoying. Also, in a way glossy displays "false colours", i.e. making colours look richer than they actually are. For printing professionals, they may prefer matte screens as the colour they see on the screen would be much closer to what they get in a printed version.

I second that to a T. I am generally anti-glossy, but the MBP is a different story. Its not the standard glossy that you see on laptops. Its less pronounced and I think a very good compromise between the variables at play: color, glare, etc.

Matte, for shure!, but like few mentioned apple glossy screens are not as glossy as HP/ Dell or others. I will be getting matte :>
