15" 2.2GHz matte-screen MacBook Pros are like impossible to find at retail locations it seems, so I finally just bought the glossy instead. My local Apple Store (Tucson - La Encantada) got some in late last night so I rushed over there this morning to buy it. $1799 + free iPod.

This whole "glossy has too much glare" crap needs to end. It is simply not true.

Short of being outside with the sun right behind you at noon, the glossy screen is better hands down. Colors are more vibrant and the screen looks incredible.

To anyone on the fence, get the glossy screen. You will not be disappointed.

Yeah, I agree the glossy screens are awesome and the only real nit with them is that they tend to be a bit off on color accuracy for those people such things are very important to.

For me none of our stores in alberta canada are carrying the glossy screen. I would have liked to compare the two and I would have most likely picked up the glossy. But I am very happy with my matt screen. Its all about choice and its nice to see that apple has given people a choice. :spinny:

Here's the thing: yes, there is more glare. BUT it is not hard to read because of the glare. The screen is so damn bright anyways that you probably won't see the glare anyways, haha.

Thats so funny when apple is using TN panels and these so called LED screens have a 46% color gamut. Its funny how people can do "professional work" on these TN panel screens.

well.... any old-style cathode ray tube monitors had a glossy screen as well. I still like the matte better. It's just a subjective matter!

You're right, it is subjective. But people should be open-minded and know that the glossy has been poo-pooed way too much.

congrats, im glad someone finally sees the light. With todays anti reflective coatings there isnt that so called blinding glare that people only read on forums then repeat like parrots.

Ill challenge you on that color accuracy claim of yours.
Get yourself a Pantone Spyder and have a studio calibrate your mac and then calibrate a macpro with glossy screen.

Ill bet you that the glossy screen is more accurate than your matte screen PLUS ill bet the gloss screens whites are 48nits-center brighter.
Yes, a matte plexan screen creates a fog. Go prove me wrong...please!!!

I ordered the matte screen version, but it has yet to arrive. I'm kind of regretting that decision...do you think I could exchange it at my local store if it hasn't been opened?

I briefly glanced at a matte screen and a glossy screen side by side at the Apple store and immediatly chose the glossy. If you are outside under the bright sunlight, turning the brightness of the screen to max or close to it will reduce alot of glare. Inside, I haven't had any problems what so ever with glare. The screen itself is also a very big head-turner. Sitting outside under the sunlight, inbetween a guy with an acer and another guy with an HP, they couldn't stop glancing over at my MBP. Everything from my screen was crystal clear, as both their screens were dark and nothing could be read from any angle except for directly in front with their faces not more then 2 inches from the screen.

As for color accuracy, my screen looks just as "accurate" as the next if not better. All the matte verses glossy rant is all speculation and rumors. Your not going to have less accurate color from one or the other. The difference between the screens has nothing to do with it's color reproduction. Glossy is just fancier coating over the same screen as a matte.

Any possibility of a picture of the two screens side by side? I live too far away from an Apple store unless I was going to go and purchase it.

people talking about "how is anyone able to do "professional" work" is ridiculous.

the people talking about this must do very very little of it, because honestly, the only time a slight color inaccuracy is a negative is when going to print, and people that know what they are doing when it comes to sending things to print will have no problems with it what so ever. Not to mention, it is so slight, and more based on the quality of the printer than anything.

and if you are worried about it being 100% accurate, there is no reason it couldn't be, there are so many ways to adjust color of the screen.

You guys are making me question liking matte over glossy.

Last time I Was at the apple store I compared the two side by side and found the reflections in the glossy screen to be very annoying.

How about CAD or programming though? Surely all the reflections must get distracting for anyone who works in either of those fields. I remember when I had a CRT back in the day that was too close to the window and it would annoy the hell out of me. Thank god for matte LCDs.

I agree with this. Chances are if you're getting too much glare on a good glossy screen nowadays, you're either sitting in direct sunlight or you've got a fluorescent light source aimed at your screen. A matte screen is not going to be any better in either case.

Some people have differing experiences due to differing laptop uses. I actually do use my laptop outside, and when I travel. My glossy laptop gave enough reflection at airports and such as to give me headaches. The matte screen shows less reflection, and a lot less detail in the reflections.

If I'm using my matte laptop at a well lit terminal gate, I can see some glare, and a tiny bit of fluctuation. That, I can live with. In the same conditions with my old glossy screened laptop, I could see a great deal of the activity going on behind me (people walking by, reflected signs, etc...).

I would never tell someone to avoid a glossy screen, because I think they have some strong points. However, I find that the glossy screens tend to give me headaches, and make it difficult to concentrate on the work at hand.

I'm glad the people who have them enjoy them though. :)
