Before getting a pro, I used to have a white macbook and enjoyed it a lot. I now have an offer to trade my pro to a black macbook core duo 2.0 with 2 gigs of ram and 80 gb hard drive. For those who haven't been following my dilemna, the trade is this macbook + 1000$ for my core 2 duo mbp. I really haven't been gaming for a while now and don't think I will go back, so 10 hours from now (1pm GMT) 21/01/2007 I will go ahead with the deal. Does any one have any objection? My plan is to do this and save 1k until something new comes from apple, like a 12" pro or something with blue ray and even a stronger gpu. By then my pro would be worth a lot less, with a thousand dollars in my pocket now I would win even if the macbook price drops drastically. Before going with this I seek your advice. Anyone thinks I should fold and stick with what I've got? Any complaints on black books?

I like the deal, especially since the macbook has 2 gigs of ram. What I have noticed is that RAM keeps an older computer selling for a lot more, even more than the RAM is worth. For example, Ibooks on eBay sell for about $550 with 512 ram, but sell for about $700 with 1.5 gigs of RAM. So go for it, and just make sure you save the 900 cash and don't spend it on something else. One last thing, with 2 gigs of RAM, the macbook is probably worth more than 1000, and I think you will be able to get even more than $700 in a few months (more like 850). Just my 2 cents.

Trust me on this, if you're waiting on a 12" MBP with a gruntier GPU than the X1600, you're going to be waiting a LONG time... I haven't seen anything more powerful than a X1400/go7400 in that form factor.

That aside, if you don't need the extra resolution (WXGA+ vs. WXGA) or the ExpressCard slot, the Macbook gives you most of the MBP's bang for a whole lot less money.
