Just wondering about install tips, if there's anything I should be careful with or look out for. Also any recommended brands? I know pretty much any 667mhz SO-DIMM will work, any preferences?

I hear good things about Kingston RAM. Just make a point to touch the metal plate in the battery compartment before touching the RAM so you dont fry your sticks with static. And don't buy your RAM from Apple.
-
Like Arquis said: dont buy from Apple! I've been pretty happy with the RAM that I got from macsales.com (went with the lowest priced OWC branded, and have had no problems).
-
When installing the replacement RAM make sure to seat the modules well. Press evenly across the module with both thumbs to ensure it is seated correctly.

stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
i just had some new ram for mine. i couldnt get it installed (yet i could do the hard drive which people say is harder). i think the trick is that you need to take both sticks out before putting the new ones in. i only took one out and when i couldnt get the new one in i wasnt gonnna risk taking the other one out if i couldnt get either of the new ones back in. i just had the local apple store do it.

Not sure if you've taken a look yet, but you should check out YouTube for some instructions on replacing RAM on the MacBook. Here's some examples, there's a lot more out there: http://youtube.com/watch?v=aVWOoMEHugc and http://youtube.com/watch?v=Qozs6KZoarA
And of course, Apple's official article as well: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303721
EDIT: Sorry, I gave you some MacBook Pro info! Here's the right stuff, updated now. -
Make sure you press down on the modules hard... it takes a bit of elbow grease to get those things in properly.
As for brands, I recommend either Kingston, Crucial, or Corsair. -
Look at your computer's instruction manual about replacing the memory, it will give detailed instructions. Also try searching for some videos online as Sam suggested, they really help. Any brand that supports their products with a lifetime warranty is worthy of being bought and is totally legit, thats all that really matters. I got Crucial RAM for my notebook and it works perfectly smoothly.

i think its all personal pref, ive used corsair value select for the past idk 5 years now, on diffrent desktops and laptops and its always performed well. some people swear by other brands. either way its an easy job as long as you have the tiny screw driver on hand
-
buy the cheapest you can find from a decent company with LIFETIME warranty.
thats all i ever look for.
i see 4GB for 74$ on newegg, yum. i spent 110$ 3 months ago. -
Yeah, as long as its from a rather known company, I think its safe to go for.
-
Cool thanks guys. One last question though...I've got the Core 2 Duo Blackbook, the one right before the santarosa refresh, 2.16ghz. If I upgraded to Leopard would I be able to put 4GB in and have it recognized? Or will it be 3GB max?
-
Its a hardware limitation, not operating system. It is still 3 GB of RAM max
.
-
Oh well, I wouldn't think I'd use more than 2GB anyways during use.
Going to upgrade MacBook RAM, any tips?
