any suggestions?

I recommend the Logitech VX Revolution...very comfortable, a nice size, very nice design.
-
i use a Wireless Mighty Mouse - no problems yet...but i heard after a while it stops working as well as it is now --anyways, id suggest a Logitech MX510..i have a red one, had it about 2 years now and it still works perfect.
-
but on some of the reviews, they say that it causes the mbp to restart from sleep
-
-
EDIT: If you mean, it causes the Mac to resume from Sleep to wake even though the lid is closed, it has to do with the fact that you connected/disconnected or used a peripheral, and not the VX Revolution. Clicking the mouse when its connected with make the Mac resume from Sleep, for example, even if the lid was closed.
However, the Mac can detect if the lid is closed or not. If you "activate" the Mac from Sleep but the lid isn't open, after a few seconds it will go back to Sleep.
This isn't a VX Revolution "problem". This occurs on any mouse. -
I can't really contribute to this thread as I don't have an external mouse for my mbp, but I can tell of you one that I have my eyes on. I'm currently looking at razer's pro-click mobile that should be shipping soon.
-
I'll 2nd (or 3rd or whatever) the recommendation for the VX Revolution. It's the perfect hybrid that you can use on the road or as your main mouse even on a desktop.
Assuming that mobility is important to you since you specified "notebook" mouse, you might also look into the VX Nano. It's the smaller brother of the Revolution and much more compact and portable.
It's sad, but I abused my VX Rev too much (dropped it a few times too) - now it squeaks when I click it...it's high-pitched and annoying enough I'm seriously considering getting a new one - but the latest offerings from Logitech haven't been great (eh...a mouse that doubles as a remote but can't handle either job particularly well? no thanks), and no other mouse really offers the combination of perfect size, ergonomics, functionality, and comfort as the VX and MX Logitech mice.
-
If you're looking for a bluetooth mouse, I recommend the V270, which I currently have, works great, I like the size, but obviously, not as comfortable as a wired mouse.
-
VX revolution all the way.
-
VX Revolution. Fabulous mouse, the wheel is superb, click action is solid. The USB dongle is fairly small too - when plugged into my wired keyboard, it barely sticks out.
-
I second/third/4th VX Revolution. It's just an amazing mouse. It feels awesome in my hands and performs excellent. It has a turn on/off button which is very important, and it even has a little space for the USB to hide in the mouse while you're carrying it.
And about the freeze-up issue, I think the latest logitech drive fixed that issue. But what I did to fix it was just to remove the logitech drive. If you even want a better drive and are willing to pay for it (I don't think it's too expensive), there's always SteerMouse.
Trust me, don't go with anything else. -
The VX Revolution is very good, but the Wireless USB receiver occupies a USB port; I'm waiting for a good Bluetooth Mouse.
Logitech V470 Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks
Microsoft Bluetooth® Notebook Mouse 5000
They're coming soon. I'm waiting to see how they perform. -
-
why would you need an 'on-off' button on a wired mouse? Are we talking about wired or cordless mice? My local computer shop seems to only have Vx cordless mice.
Can someone advise re: wired vs cordless and whether the Vx everyone is recommending is wired or cordless.
thanks -
-
To the person who started this thread: if you don't use your USB slots that often and don't see any necessity in buying a bluetooth mouse, the VX is it. I'm only using 1 USB slot, and that's for my mouse. WHenever I want to use my printer, I plug it in and then unplug it after I'm done. So I still have 1 free USB slot.
Plus, bluetooth mice are more expensive. -
do you need to install the driver to use the VX revolution on a mac? is the mouse operational while you reformat mac os x?
-
Reformat: is anything operational while you reformat mac os x? (my answer is: i dont know). -
yes standard wired usb mouse works. and that include the keyboard also. also the same case with windows.
oh and sepandee; can you please define what you mean by "working"? is all the button operational? i have use an MX400 mouse with my macbook and without the driver the back/forward thumb button doesn't work. i avoid using the driver from manufacturer if i was using it on my mac. i heard a lot of nightmare about driver support for mac. -
* The scrolling wheel's ability to move left and right instead of up and down.
* The search button
* The Zoom Button.
* The page back/forward buttons.
These are the things that DON'T work. I'm going to install the updated logitech driver and will see how it functions. I will post the results here later tonight. -

Yea i can't believe people want to spend $50 on a mouse!
-
-
I have the updated drivers for my VX on Mac, and it has all functionalities - including the search button launching Spotlight (kinda pointless, I think). Get Logitech Control Console or whatever it is to configure it how you like - works well.
-
It is a known issue that Logitech drivers for the Mac consistently cause kernel panics where a transparent grey screen appears and says in about 4 languages that you have to restart your computer.
It most often happens when you are using the mouse and wake up the computer from sleep.
I mentioned this when I posted my review on Amazon for the VX Nano which Ive had for about a month now, and a guy disagreed with me saying I should use Steermouse. But if I paid $60 for a mouse that advertises Mac support, why should I have to spend another $20 for drivers thatll make it work properly? -
That hasn't happened to me since the latest Logitech update actually - it used to be that everytime you turned on or off the USB, OSX would kernal panic (coming back from screensaver, simply removing the USB while it was active, etc.)...very very annoying.
Odd that you're still getting those kernal panics so recently. Ah well... -

But a freakin mouse! Sorry, im a cheap ba$tard but the MBP is worth its weight in gold. -
Trust me, SS, the Logitech VX Revolution is worth its price. The scroll wheel, the form factor...everything is excellent.
I would get it if I had cash.
-
-
clicking on the logitech control centre brings the message "no logitech devices found"!!!! So much for an answer. A simple google search said that removing the connecter (USB) restarting the laptop should fix the problem, but i really really really doubt this is the case.
Anyone knows why I'm getting this stupid error????
Ah, the moments when my mac starts feeling like a pc. -
im using the V270 bluetooth mouse since im not a big fan of stuff sticking out of my ports unless i absolutely needed something to. If i had to get a mouse now it would be the VX Nano since the dongle is extremely small or i'd wait for the V470 bluetooth.
-
thats why i avoid installing any driver on my mac.
btw, how much is 5.4 pounds of gold worth? -
-
.
-
So my answer if final: if a bluetooth mouse is not necessary, your best choice is the logitech revolution vx, hands down. -
$60k huh? you can buy a lot of macbook pro with that!
thats should be enough for a lifetime! -
seriously man, after reading your post i decided to buy a VX revolution, get that! seriously! don't get the MX revolution.. its annoying.... you have to change the whole mouse when the battery when flat. with the VX revolution, i suggest getting the SONY refresher NiMH battery charger. and you're good to go.
OMG this thing are GREAT plug and go! no fuss. don't install the driver, heard a lot of problem with most driver from most manufacturer.
i'm very hard to please, but this VX revolution pleases ME, soooo comfortable, probably, dare i say it... more comfortable than my MX510 and G5. by a bit though. but WOW logitech hit a homerun with the VX revolution!
OMG! see my post:

i'm in love!!!!!!! weeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I actually use a Razer Coperhead, its an old mouse i had laying around. Only problem is there are no MAC drivers. Other than that its great.
-
I just bought a logitech vx nano and i have to say its pretty amazing on my mbp.
-
SkyGtr87 did you install the software or not?
-
-
There is a Mac version of SetPoint on the Logitech downloads page. -
yes, but i apparently they said that it can cause problem and kernel panics, i'll think i stick with the mac's driver, thank you very much.
although if you decide to install, can you give us an update?
so what is this back/forward button assign as? coz they have this weird function.... -
I'm not sure what it's set by default as. Probably <- and ->. -
i've just got some disturbing news
when the computer is sleeping, and i move the mouse; the computer would wake up from sleep. is this also what happens with wireless mighty mouse? or any other wired/wireless mouse for that matter?
would this still occur if you install the driver?
oh, and do you disconnect the USB transceiver after you've done using the mouse? or do you plug it in practically all the time?
and do i need to turn off the mouse after i've done using it? or will it go to sleep and i do not need to worry about it? do you turn it off after you're done using it?
any other tips and tricks or comment you want to add? -
Not sure where to order it exactly,
but for anyone who appreciates the precision of the trackball...
there is a Bluetooth option--
I believe it is called "The Ball" by MacMice.Last edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -
Ofcourse now that I've recommended "The Ball", I can't find it anywhere.
The selling site seems to have reset itself to a template offering nothing but... "this is where you put the title... this is where you post the product picture" type of jibberish.
Anyone have any ideas? -
actually i better post my problem in a new thread.. ever since i already bought the mouse for my MBP. thanks guys

Is this such a big problem? Honestly, I feel sometimes we get hooked on things that don't necessarily have to be so much of a big deal. When you put your laptop to sleep, just put the mouse away, somewhere where you won't touch it by accident.

I purchased a Logitech VX nano, though I ended up using Steermouse drivers for OSX because of the kernel panic concerns some have mentioned. I do have LCC installed in Windows XP.
It has most of the features as its older sibling (Revolution) w/ the advantage of being more portable (smaller) and having a smaller USB dongle (about the size of a nickel. I don't bother to remove the dongle at all when I'm done, which is convenient (although it wouldn't take much effort to remove the larger dongle of its cousin I suppose, or unplug a USB cord for that matter).
For hardcore FPS gamers that demand high levels of sensitivity, bear in mind the nano mouse is rated at 800dpi, so while it may not give you that level of finesse you need, I feel it is robust enough to handle most applications/games.
Note: People with long fingers or large hands may find the Revolution more comfortable; in my case I sacrificed supreme comfort for portability. Did I mention the nano also comes with zipper case? =)
