Well I can't say enough about iStat Menus. It would replace both Coconut Battery and SMC Fan Control, but just became a paid for app.

Quicksilver is fantastic. Look up a interface for it called HUD.

VLC for media files (I don't like using Perian on my work machine)

Xbench isn't bad for benchmarking, if you are into that.

Handbrake for converting video files to H264.

MPEG2StreamClip for converting MPEG2 sources to anything else.

Acqlite as an alternative to Transmission.

    Vuze.

I have an XPS M1530 at the moment with an 8600m gt. I'm going to get a new 13" Macbook Pro with the 320m - they have similar performance dont they?

Don't have a screen shot, but in the latest iStat (paid version), go into the preferences (iStat Menus), go to the Sensors tab, in the General box there is a Fan speed control check box, and next to that you can edit your fan speed control rules.

Also regarding the OP: Psst (to get rid of the annoying startup sound), Warp (if you use the virtual desktops), and +1 for Mplayer OSX Extended.

To add about this iStat fan control...I'm guessing it's probably the difference between ajreynol's 17" and my 13" model. But my iStat only has "Default" and "Medium" rule sets. That's not to say I couldn't create my own rules though and the 13" obviously only has 1 fan, not 2.

Oh, I hand-made those fan speeds, Snork.

it only came with "default". I made 3 more so that I could switch up on the fly.

made them by hitting the "+" in the "Rule Sets" pane.
