For the pages, you need to drag the bottom right hand corner down to the edge. So move the top left hand side to the top left and drag to fit. That will increase the size. Then if you want a smaller screen hit the green plus button and it will be smaller. That is basically your maximize/minimize button if your coming from Windows. To log out click on the apple in the top left corner, then choose the log out option. Im not sure how to make a new username though. Sorry.

on the Apple menu there is a log out option....

on the Apple menu is System Preferences... in there you can control many system things, include an icon in there called Accounts where you can control accounts or add new ones.

To make a new account go to system preferences > accounts.

To log out, go to the apple menu on the top left corner and select log out

To make a new user or change user names go to system preferences and select accounts. You'll need to click the lock in the bottom left corner and enter your password to make changes.

As to page sizes, there is not an expand to fill entire screen button in os x like there is in windows (at least not all the time; for example firefox does fill the whole window, safari does not). Pressing the green button on the top left of the window will sometimes format the window only to allow all the information in the window to be displayed properly. You can either move the window and drag the window from the bottom right corner to fill the entire screen or you could try this which seems to be a good thing for windows switchers: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090302023042371

Haven't tried it, but I might. The green button has always irritated me a bit due to its schizophrenic nature.

I am obviously a slow typer...no repsonses when I started...

hmm the only thing that I can think of that he may have done is turn hiding on under the dock preferences. Many apps like photoshop, illustrator and the like fill the whole page automatically.

    apple menu>dock>turn hiding on.

the button you're talking about is option/alt. so option+command+d hides and shows the dock.

    Screenshot, launch grab in applications>utilities

or you can grab the freeware snapNdrag which has hotkeys and some other useful features.

grab is the name of a program on your mac you can use to do screenshots. There are also some built in ways to do screenshots without having to use Grab.app

    • Command+Shift+3 = Capture entire screen and save as a file
    • Command+Control+Shift+3 = Capture entire screen and copy to the clipboard
    • Command+Shift+4 = Capture dragged area and save as a file
    • Command+Control+Shift+4 = Capture dragged area and copy to the clipboard
    • Command+Shift+4 then Space bar = Capture a window, menu, desktop icon, or the menu bar and save as a file
    • Command+Control+Shift+4 then Space bar = Capture a window, menu, desktop icon, or the menu bar and copy to the clipboard

By default most programs download to your desktop. I always make a folder called Downloads in my home folder and change my default download locations in my browser(s) to use that folder instead.

yes, and green means not charging...

it tailors charing depending how much power your taking.. the more power your machine is using, the less is left over for charging. charging will be fastest if the machine is off or asleep.

    1) same thing for me.
    2) mine is not loud.
    3) 100gb/250gb allocated to vista. you can remove your partition anytime but you will lose your windows.
    4) download the cpu monitor for vista gadget bar.
    5) download office 2008, the supplied messenger supports emoticons.

@ the OP, I don't mean to come across harsh but you are asking way too many questions that should be pretty easy to figure out since you came from Windows and it seems like you are fairly literate to computing. The forum is great for help but not to teach you how to use a Mac. Also please use the HELP menu in the menu bar at the top of your screen for most of those questions you asked. You should take a look at this Mac 101 Grand Tour first. http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/tour/

Any other softwares you are looking for can be easily downloaded from Versiontracker. www.versiontracker.com

Also if you Google "OS X 101" you'll find a PowerPoint Presentation that you can view on your Mac with no additional software by just clicking on the file and hitting your spacebar to view it.

i did both and the help menu is useless.

ok, i install parallels and allocated 750mb of ram to it. but how can i use the 9600m gt too in it?
it onlys allows me to u se up to 64mb ram and thats while i have my 9600m gt on in mac??
is there a equivalent of HWmonitor for mac?

i fixed the vlc problem, all videos files now use vlc :)
    the activity monitor is taskmanager.
    the messenger sucks.

i still cant understand why running no programs on osx and changeing from 70% to 100% takes 2 hours??????

•find a file you want to always open with VLC
•right click it and hit Get Info
•On the Get Info window there will be an Open With section, choose VLC
•click the Change All button in the Open With section.

•bootcamp is whatever space you need, i give hardly any to Windows because I use it for very little and very rarely.
•You can use the Bootcamp assistant again later to remove it and give it back all to OSX if you choose.
•to monitor the computer processors and usage, use the application called Activity monitor, which is by default located in your Applications->Utility folder
•for messengers I use Adium, which is a free download and runs with many IM services.

•Parallels cannot directly access your video card. It can directly use part of your processor because it has virtualization tech in it, but the rest of the virtual computer Windows is running on is emulated fake hardware, including graphics. Graphics will always run with severe penalties in a virtual machine.
•are you sure no programs are running? most mac apps do not close when you click the little window close button at the top left. Anything in your Dock at the bottom that has a blue glowy dot under it is still running. Also the estimate for charging and de-charging.. are usually pretty far off.. the charging the most.

yeh, all apps closed, from 70% to 100% was about 2 hours, turned off its quicker.

the first 70% charge quick, the next 30% take wayyyy too long.

1.) The computer uses a trickle charge, which preserves battery life. This is a good thing. "Burst charging" (I made up that term) your battery will do nothing more than kill it faster.

2.) When you're plugged in while using the computer, all the operating hardware/software get first priority at power. The rest goes to charging. Even if you aren't doing anything, you're still using power and depending on how the computer handles this, it may not matter whether you have a lot open or not.

My guess there is some inernal settings that say something to the effect of "if charging and computer is turned on, battery only gets 20% of incoming power for charging. If computer is turned off, battery gets all the power." At least, that's what I would do if I were designing the computer. This guarantees #1 while ensuring there is more than enough power available on-demand while using the computer.

While I haven't used Paint, it might be good, if you want something more complicated and powerful... getting closer to Photoshop level... you can download Gimp, its free too.
