Hi all I'm a potential switcher and I'm very interested in getting a MBP soon.

I currently own an ASUS G1 but its weight is too much for me and windows is just.....

Anyhow, I came across this article and was wondering if there's an imminent update for MBP other than the January Penyrn update.

    Here's the link: http://switchtoamac.com/site/macbook-macbook-pro-updates-soon-release-dates-analyzed.html

It's so awesome to hear such great things about apple and I can't wait to join you guys.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Most likely there won't be an update of the MacBook Pro before Penryn in early 2008. There is nothing major to update the MBP with, and any update now would be really close to the early 2008 update.

Thanks for the quick reply and clarification. Guess there's no more reason for me to delay buying the MBP.

Will keep you guys updated and will definitely ask when I have any questions.

Just to give a statement from another point of view: I personally - Sam will perhaps remember the lively discussion we had about this - believe in an MBP update before end of the year. To be more precise I think the MBP will be updated along with the MB for very many reasons. I´m aware of the fact that this doesn´t relfect the boards´ most "pro"-Applegeeks opinions, but it is my conclusion after having thought on the current (from now up to x-mas business) Apple notebook situation.

Well, the MBP is due for a redesign...but hard to say when that happens. Possibly with the Penryn update, maybe with the Montevina update in Q2 2008, or maybe not until Nehalem in the second half of 2008.

But thinking about it, Nehalem is a major hardware update, so the redesign might happen sooner than that, so then Apple can market the redesign as the major change in the new MBPs, whereas they market the components as the major change in the Nehalem MBPs.

As for the Penryn update, maybe larger hard drives, higher screen resolution? That'd be nice.

    1. new revision of LED screen, finally 1680x1050
    2. HDMI
    3. new housing/case/design
    4. new port layout (cause of 3) and added ports (USB)
    5. HDD refresh (>120/160)
    6. VRAM size: could be a real thing to upgrade to 256/512 instead of 128/256.

Well, I don't see them Going HDMI, becsause then the MBP won't suppor Apples 30" cinema display.

512MB isn't really necessesary for a 8600M GT, although a rasie from the minimum 128 would be nice.

    The, rest ok.

Because it needs dual-link. HDMI doesn't support dual-link (not right now, anyways), even though the bandwith is higher.

I thought HDMI was already able to... Well, this is up for a decision when the new Cinema Displays get a new makeover anyway.
