Ok so some of you may know that I recently sold my old MBP and got a Sony SR290. After using it, the screen was too small and I sold that as well. I was set on getting the bigger FW290...but ended up with this...

I must say Im glad I got this. It's the 2.4, because I could not justify an extra $500 + tax to get more ram, since I won't be gaming the video ram doesn't mean anything, and the 2.4 is plenty.

Everything about this model is better than the old ones. It truly is a work of art...that's useful.

Sweet. I'm with you. I wish they'd make a version without the fancy GPU. I'd prefer the battery life and less heat. A 17" MBP with the WUXGA screen and X4500 would be a great setup.

Congrats, it's indeed a beautiful machine. I just hope the nVidia cards don't end up being bad.

Now I;m having second thoughts about getting the 2.4 vs 2.53

It seems like this is not a huge step up from my old 2.16 ghz MBP.

But then again, I'm pretty sure the 2.53 will not be noticeably faster than this, it just bugs me that there is a higher end model (even though I don't need it).

If you did everything fine with the 2.16, then the 2.4 is gonna do everything fine as well. People use 2ghz macbooks everyday. OSX doesnt really need a lot of horsepower to run smoothly, and for most tasks a 2 or 2.2 ghz is perfectly fine. But if you need the extra cpu speed/graphics for other programs there is that option.

If youre just using the laptop for everyday use, the 2.5 really wouldnt help that much.

A beautiful machine right there. Once I get a proper 'computer room' set up, would like to add a MB or MBP to my collection :)

Im going to keep the 2.4, i realized its fine and i am just being selfish by wanting more when people cant even afford the 2.4!

For the unibody owners, I want you to do a test.

Open up the google homepage, and then look at your screen at an angle of 45 degrees or greater.

It seems like there is uneven backlighting on my screen, there are areas of bright, then slightly dark, then light.

    Normal? Defect?

Normal. Both my 2.53Ghz MBPs are like this. I noticed it immediately coming back to my desk the first evening and seeing a white screen from an angle. Even the display models at my Best Buy do this.

FYI, you'd not notice any difference between the 2.4Ghz and the 2.53Ghz, so don't even think twice about it. Processors haven't felt faster in years and years and years... It's probably need to be a 3.2Ghz before you noticed the difference, and perhaps not even then...

That's weird if you ask me. I can notice it even when looking head on at white screens.

Oh well, I can live with it.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the whole ram issue. I want to upgrade to 4gb, but then I hear of problems with aftermarket ram.

The speed of the processor doesn't really boost performance as it used to. An extra 100 MHz means very little, unless you do a ton of music and video encodings.

These days, it's not how fast the processor is, but how many core's its packing and in the near future it will be how powerful the graphics card is (with the move to utilize the GPU for some of the tasks the CPU would normally handle).

More cores do not equal significantly more performance. Most applications do not take advantage of multiple cores. 8 cores are not significantly better than 2 cores. At least not for a computer designed for typical desktop usage.

If they ever come out with the displayport to dual DVI adapter Id get the new MBP in a sec. Too bad I was told numerous times it would be "soon" and it is still not out AFAIK.
