My Hitachi HDD has been making tick/clunking noise , only in Snow Leopard , not in Leopard , I have been two and fro about 5 times and am 100% certain it only happens in Snow Leopard.

I am sure it`s the hdd parking the heads as power saver thing.

Now i have been checking my smart data and the g-sense rate is very high , as this macbook is a desktop replacments and has not moved an inch in the 5 weeks i have had it.

Below is a capture of my smart data , is it OK , if you want to check your smart data use the app below.

    Thanks.

That G-sense error rate has to be erroneous, but still something to worry about is the why it is recording it as such.

But first, the most notable figures are the load cycle count (head parking i.e. unloading off media) versus the start/stop and power on hours. The number of time the drive has been powered on and going into sleep mode is reasonable by this report, but the heads are unloading off the media an average of once every 6-7 seconds of operation over the life of the drive. That is curious. Unless that is erroneous too.

I suppose, as reason for posting is comparison with what others reports are showing. I'll be running that report this evening.

I wouldn't worry about G-Sense Error Rate, most of the time these S.M.A.R.T. readings are very cryptic(especially the raw value). The only time when you should be worrying is when the actual "Value" actually lowers, and even then depenidn on the Attribute, your drive will still work perfectly fine.

FanSpeed has an HDD SMART diagnostic , it even takes your readings to a website and gives you an analysis.

It gives me VERY GOOD for everything but spin up time which is GOOD.
