Recently I have been looking around at linux stuff, but I have given up. Along the way I decided to boot off of my leopard install disk and run disk utility to "repair disk." That failed and it showed that no changes had been made to my disk or its partitions. Thats when the problems started... Now i cant seem to boot into my mac partition... However, I can boot into my windows partition! I know that the data on my mac partition is alright because i used a program called HFSexplorer to check out my data. Everything seems to be alright data wise, but i still cant boot. Oddly enough mac was able to boot 1/5 time, but only after an unusually long wait time at the gray apple/ spinning fan screen at boot up. I am confused and freaked out because i really dont want to reinstall my operating systems. I think that something went wrong with the boot *stuff* somehow... I dont think i have done anything that should have caused this!@!@! HELP!

simply put: I can boot windows xp through holding alt at startup, but i cant boot osx through holding alt or just letting the computer start up like normal. when i try to start osx it just stops at the gray spinning fan apple screen.

update: I fixed it.. It was weird because i booted from my install disk once in an effort to set the startup disk but it didnt recognize anything on my hard drive. After a bit of internet searching i tried that same method and it decided to recognize my hd and its partitions. I was able to set my startup disk via the leopard install disk and now everything seems fine. I was able to boot into mac, and jsut to be sure I restarted again and everthing is working fine. I think the problem was all caused by me booting from the install disk and rather than setting a startup disk I just turned off the computer (via one of the menus not a hard shutdown). I guess that screws with booting up OS X... Oh well.

    PROBLEM SOLVED! :D
