    not sure exactly what you mean, but disk utility which is already on your mac, will format any drive to HFS+.

    Use Disk Utility to format the drive.

    Yep, just plug in the drive (it will mount regardless of the drive's existing format) and then you'll see it listed in Disk Utility and can reformat it there.
