So quick question, due to Dell further wasting my life, I think I'm going to go through with this plan of a MB now and MBP later when it's revamped.

My question is, does anybody foresee any MB updates in the new week or so or is it relatively safe to go for the MB right now?

I just got my mac pro. I dont care if it has penryn or not, core 2 duo at 2.2 and 4mb cache was enough for me. i like the features, leopard, and everythign else more than I care about having a 5% faster processor. If this was my DESKTOP I may care more, but for a laptop, this thing is just great with or without Penryn.

I'm not worrying about the penryn in my MacBook, I'm more worried about the updated trackpad and small features like that. Should I wait for another few weeks or take the plunge now?

The macbooks were updated in November so my guess is that it will be at least another two months before anything gets refreshed on it. I bought mine last month.

The other thing to consider for those waiting is that Intel still seems to have production issues with Penryn. Both HP and Dell have Penryn-based systems on backorder or delayed status. They appear to be in short supply. Which is yet another reason for the delay.

IMO, if the delay is going to be that long that the wait between unrestricted availability of Penryn chips and the arrival of Montevina turns out to be a mere month or two, apple surely must be at least considering that.

Of course this theory may end up being dead come this Tuesday. :p

I'm officially a Mac user now, picked up the 2.2 ghz Macbook with 1GB of RAM. I already upgraded it to 4GB. I added the apple care and .MAC (as a teacher I was given some sort of deal for both, although I don't really think I'll ever use the .MAC too much, but who knows, I'm still learning obviously). I also picked up a few accessories. This should be a more than adequate way to "get my feet wet" with the Mac until the new MBPs come out, whenever that may be.

Thank you to everyone here who helped me out and answer my questions. I'm excited to finally join the family! Time to change my signature... ATC, I may be using yours to start off!

Congrats. Oh and don't worry about the signature as I'm pretty sure I used someone else's. :)

Wait. No doubt about it. Alot of rumors of upgrades to Macbook Pro so hopefully they do it before you need to buy it. I'm pretty anxious to see the upgrades myself.

Naturally, a few days after I purchase my MacBook, they update the specs. Bigger hard drive and a slightly faster chip nothing too big, but still. Well, what can you do?

At least the MBP's seem likely to be remodeled over the summer, so we think...
