I have just deleted the linux partition from the dual-boot Powerbook G4 so now I have an unallocated partition. How can I format this partition to HSF+ without touching the OS X 10.4 partition?

    Thank you.

You need a non-destructive partition utility. Here are two:
    Drive Genius
    iPartition
Can't say how well they work, but both have free trials. HTH!

Why couldn't Disk Utility be used? Or could it but those programs are just better?

you could prolly use disk utility to partition it, but you wouldn't be able to merge it with your current partition.

Exactly. Disk Utility will want to format the OS X partition in order to merge them. There is a way to make Disk Utility merge them without formatting, but it is part of Boot Camp, which PowerPC cannot use as far as I know.

I have managed to format the partition to FAT32 using Ubuntu LiveCD. The partition shows up in disk utility, can I use disk utility in this case without touching OS X partition?

    Thank you.

If you just want to format it as HFS+. If you want to combine the paritions, I am not certain that Disk Utility will do that.

I have got ipartition installed now and also have deleted the FAT32 partition. Can anyone teach me how to use ipartition to create HFS+? I have unlocked the hard disk in ipartition and it shows the free space but I cannot figure out how to convert it to HFS+.

    Thank you.
