    Hey!
I am buying a macbookpro soon, and I want to protect it as much as I can, so it does not have scratches or whatever.

I started research, and found that there are lots of different kinds of shells to use on it, for protection purposes.

Can you recommend the best-regarded ones?
I also noticed that the difference in their prices can be brutal, sometimes, I didnt intend to spend that much, but if the difference in quality is also brutal, let me know. xD

    Thanks in advance,
    Fernando.

You're going to buy a beautiful, sleek, aluminum MBP and wrap it up in plastic. Save the money and just take care of it.

For the Alumininum body, I won't buy a case myself.
But if you do want one, Speck would be the top.

Don't buy Incase, their cases don't really fit that well.

Try speck, i have hard nice things... however i laugh at the people who wrap their sexy macbook pros in plastic... (Yes i love the look of the aluminum unibody).

In the past Speck was crappy compared to incase. I had a speck and later got rid of it for an incase.

I'm in a similar situation, and now its hard to find incase hardshells for the 15", and I dont know if I want to risk ordering one, and once it comes realize it isn't as good.

Might end up going with the speck just because I can get them locally..

    Thanks all for the replies.
If I buy one, it's probably going to be a Speck..

But now I'm reconsidering the purchase because of losing the sexiness of it :( lol

I wouldn't recommend any hardshell case for the 15" uMBP. I used both speck seethru satin and incase hardshell cases and they all added wight to the screen. The result from that is it makes the hinge more loose.

As the design of the unibody relies on heat dissipation through the case, wrapping an extra layer of plastic around it might cause excess heat build up. Consider this carefully before purchase.

I've had 2 on my recent MBP.

Speck Clear (See Thru) case. $50 USD
    mCover Hard Shell. $25 USD

They both fit extremely well and neither one affected the temperature of the machine while in operation (according to SMC Control and checking with an IR thermometer).

However, my MBP now sits naked again as both shells did what they were supposed to do. The Speck took a direct impact from another laptop falling on it, which cracked it (but not a dent in my MBP). The mCover protected it when I had a case of butter fingers and dropped said MBP on a table (cracked off the 2 feet that folded down to put the device at an angle).
I'm waiting on a replacement mCover as I like the built-in feet that allow the MBP to be tilted a bit (makes typing easier).

Both covers were almost an exact fit (please make sure you buy the models that are listed for your EXACT MBP model).

Also remember that the Macbook's air intake is in the hinge, so when the hinge is higher off the table(as in the Speck case lifting it) it can get more air in.

This is true, which is why I like the mCover as well.

Most people that have had issues with a Speck (or similar) product is that they don't read carefully and buy one that is not exactly for their model device.

My late-2008 MBP does not use the same case as the newer 2010 MBP.

Thinking over this not sure if I want to get Sleeve or Hardcase now. But I really LOVE the naked feel of the MacBook Pro.

If you're worried about scratches, look at Moshi Guard. They make a body, palm rest, trackpad and keyboard cover.

    I don't know if I need one.
I researched a little on google and their website, but I found nothing about 'Speck lid', what's that?

And sorry, btw, my english is terrible, it is not my mother language :p

    Thanks

TheRocketMac said his Speck lid busted when a laptop fell on it, I was offering him my old Speck lid(the old base broke, so I'm stuck with the lid part).

@fgielow: These cases are cool too, kinda see through and harder than a Speck case: http://www.macbook-case.com/sitemaps/MacBook-Hard-Case/
