Hi, I'm new here. I've decided to get a MacBook -- I love the keyboard, the screen, and the overall size. I'd prefer a TrackPoint, but the extra large size touch pad is a good enough compromise for me.

My problem is that I'd like to get a black MacBook, because I'm starting law school and I think black looks more professional, but I find the matte outer surface somewhat cheap looking. I know they did that for durability and to avoid the black iPod's scratchability, but coming from a ThinkPad, the matte black plastic look bugs me a little. I may actually prefer the white MacBook.

It occurred to me that I might be able to use Armor-All on the outside to get a bit of a darker, shinier exterior on the black MacBook. I use the stuff everywhere in my car and it seems to work consistently. Has anyone tried this?

it would be really slippery and probably leave grease-like streaks unless it was evenly covered with it all the time. I wouldn't recommend it. If you really want a shiny surface, you could get this.

I agree with kidA on this one, not only does it give a shiny look, but it also protects it from scratches and getting dirty, not to mention wearing that matte down.

hey, we agree on something. the invisibleshields are really nice, and they really protect it, and give you the shiny look that you want.

I second the opinions of KidA and xbandaidx - Armor-All probably wouldn't be the best thing for anything electronic. It works great on cars though :)

Looks interesting if it works! However, the only photo on the site, the one on the front of the front page of the guy holding the black iPod, doesn't look all that reassuring. Here:

The middle is way darker than the sides, like it's stuck more there than in other places, and I mean, it's not like they didn't have enough of these to put on if they messed up the first time putting it on. So, has anyone tried it? On what device? Is it really invisible, and do the corners peel off after some time? It would be worth the money if it works well, but if not, then it's just an expensive piece of tape...

Trust me its good stuff, do a search on InvisibleShield video on google you'll find them doing a lot of stuff to it. Such as scratching keys on it.

Anyways its the exact same thing they put on the blades of helicopters to protect from damage.

Good point about the potential for grease-like streaks, especially I guess if I picked it up with sweaty hands.

I really like the InvisibleShield suggestion. Does anyone have pictures of how this looks on a black MacBook?

I have it on a black and white macbook. I like the gloss black look of the blackbook over the matte. Smudges will be more prevalent, however it's easier to clean.

I think that blob on the iPod picture is a reflection. One of the pictures linked from MacNN has a similar blob, and the caption says that the MacBook was positioned so that there's a reflection. Sounds good. I don't need any of that stuff for my <3 Fuji <3, but when one day I'll get an iPod, I'll make sure to get one of these. A part of the reason I don't have one is, I didn't want to buy it when there was no color screen, color iPod became obsolete very quickly, and the video iPod looks rather ugly in most protective cases. If they only hurry up with the new version of the iPod, I don't want to buy now it when it's pretty close to becoming obsolete...

Who knows. Metal also scratches though. I had/have Sony Ericsson T616, and it was always in my bag with the keys and all, and there are all these annoying nicks on all the corners, including on the metal part. Or at least I think it's metal. It doesn't retain fingerprints, so perhaps it's not metal. I'm using J300 now and I don't feel like looking for T616 right now, but even with metal, it's good to have protection if said protection is invisible.
