I am proud to say that my Macbook Pro (aluminum) that I bought in January 2009 has not crashed on me, yet. That is unlike my previous Windows based machines. A lot of my friends have been switching over to the MB and MBP. It has been a great platform - it may not work out for every single user (regarding certain applications, a person's budget or job specific duties), but it was an easy transition after 20 years of Windows use for me.
CAVEAT: I do not game on my system. If I were a gamer, I would be disappointed.

That's great to hear! However, I'll keep using Windows machines, because I like the Windows environment better than the Mac environment. I have worked with Mac and Windows machines, and I just feel more at home with Windows. To each, his or her own.
-
I'm highly satisfied with it. I just hoped apple would release better drivers for bootcamp support.
-
I've received ~3 kernel panics in the two years I've had my MBP
-
2 times in last 8 month I think...
-
often when i use office..i think my mac is allergic to those..luckily i don't need them...
-
Yeah I had a real freezing three times when connecting the 3G receiver and opening wifi airport: only means was to press the power p/b. Once, I had a problem with bluetooth too.
Nevertheless, bith crash cases were adressed and no problems so far.
Cheers -
MBP crashed a few times when I tried to do a big amount of apps at the same time.
At first, I satisfied with the macbook pro but quite disappoint later due to the lack of cooling, especially in windows. -
what temps do you get?
-
Unfortunately, that is the trade-off you'll have to make for a super thin notebook with a powerful GPU.
-
So it still crashes when in OSX?
-
Used my Macbook Pro pretty much constantly since getting it in February, and it's absolutely rock solid. No crashes at all
-
The temp seems to be fine. same with everyone.
However, I just dont like temp goes over 70-80 degrees while gaming in windows. -
Yes, OS X is just another operating system like XP, Vista, etc.
-
well, only notebook that will give you temps less then that while gaming is Clevo D900C.
-
I know that, if the temp in windows is just as good as in osx, i wont make any complain
-
Your post has nothing to do with what the OP was asking about. He wanted to know if anyone's MBP ever crashed? This isn't about the Mac OS X environment vs. Windows. If you have nothing to contribute related to the question, don't.
To the OP, none of my Macs have ever crashed, however programs that have bugs have generally crashed, but that's about it. Generally crashing in OS X happens if you have faulty ram or a failed logic board, other than that the system is generally very stable. -
I successfully undervolted my cpu in vista and now i'm in the 60's using @2k rpm on my fans. Yay!!
-
If you undervolt the CPU under vista, will it keep the setting under osx as well?
-
No, it's because rm clock activates the underclock once in vista.. But there's an os x equivalent for it.
-
crashed a few times in 7months; only once was related to game(world of goo, nothing fancy, none on CoD4)
the occurrence is about the same to windows xp
while i get ~75C under CoD4 @max rpm
i occasionally get 80+ without reason; windows never give me this. -
So, what's our temps under windows?
-
What applications are running when it gets that hot, and how long has your machine been active?
-
Perhaps he's been torrenting. Utorrent made my machine go in the 70's a few times before the fans kicked in and brought them a little bit down.
-
Yeah, Utorrent made my machine start to fry an egg, so it might be because of some torrent program. Transmission might be a problem also.
-
I've never tried transmission but i also heard it had the same effect on temperature of the macbook/pro.
-
no, i can shut down everything but the temp remains > 5mins before i do a reboot.(with or without BT on prior) and while that resolves the problem, i didn't count them as "crash" either.
i have BT on and normally they are at 55C@3krpm; capping at 110kb/s 5kb/s(yes i am greedy
)
it might have something to do with the hibernation, and before closing the lid i will always turn off wifi and shut down transmission as well until i use my computer again -
In my 5 years of using a powerbook/macbook pro, I've only had the kernel panic (equivalent to the blue screen of death) a total of 4 times.
And those 4 times only 3 of the times due to an application that caused the kernel panic because it was not compatible with 10.5.x as to 10.4.x. No big deal. -
I used to be a big fan of azureus until I started using transmission. Its a much smaller app than azureus and it seems to work just as well if not better.
-
I'm very happy to say both my Macbook Pros (mid-2007 and late 2008 unibody) have only crashed on 3rd party apps - like Firefox (?) and Yahoo Messenger (which is total garbage. Yahoo outdid themselves /sarcasm).
As far as 1st party apps I use such as Safari, Mail, Logic Pro and iLife, I have yet to have a crash or a "quit unexpectedly" message. Even other pro apps such as Propellerhead's Reason has behaved exemplary. -
weird, i crash safari much much more often than firefox, and it is even a beta version(3.5) where safari3 is giving me much great headaches(CPU resource jumping over 70% w/ flash movies)
-
I got a Macbook, and I had to run vpn software, using the mac version I got kernel panics everyday I used it. Aside from those ( not caused by mac but poor 3rd party programs ) my mac has only crashed once, while opening a ms power point document. However I do get frozen programs that I have to force quit every so often. Still its very stable.
-
Yes it has...my USB thumb drive gave it a hard time and I kept inserting it and taking it out as it wouldn't "eject" from the screen...eventually ed up my whole computer and I had to reinstall OS.
-
Don't you think it's a badly applied thermal paste on your cpu? I would bring it to an apple store to feel assured. -
I'm glad my guidance was of service
How are you temps now in Vista? And want about Coolbook?
-
i had 1 kernal panic with my old mbp
Has your Macbook Pro ever crashed?
