Wow the "superior build quality" from apple this days is top notch!

What exactly are they doing to fix this? Seems to me people should be getting new machines instead since this has been around since 2015 apparently.

Just think what you could probably buy a quality/reliable ThinkPad with probably the best keyboard in the industry for less than what it would cost buying an Apple laptop. If I was ever considering dropping $1200+ on a laptop I would look at the ThinkPad X1's or the ThinkPad E or T series before buying a laptop from Apple where keyboards have been an issue for several years now. And unlike Apple, Lenovo doesn't solder their SSD to the motherboard. They typically use standard M2 storage cards.

I am a Dell lover, The xps lineup mops the floor with macbooks too. The inspiron 7000 lineup is better than the air as well.
-
The XPS is slightly better in thermals than rMBP but looking at value, inspiron 7000 series is more worthy to buy than a xps.
-
Doing video encoding, the xps is much faster no matter what the thermals say.
-
Even at 100C XPS is faster than MBPs?
-
Yes.

I always chuckle when I see blanket statements like those above, they are rarely helpful (or accurate)...
Even after all of my modifications, my XPS would get spanked by something with good cooling. Not to mention something without the early throttling of the GPU and power limits on the CPU.
The new MBP seems to better handle temps than those before, at least from the initial youtube videos I watched on it. Probably just a better undervolt applied via firmware though.Vasudev likes this. -
We are not discussing the XPS versus a full blown gaming system. We are discussing the MBP vs XPS. The XPS is the faster out of the two regardless of what another computer can do against the XPS. That's not the argument.

Right I get that, but your blanket statement that a MBP is slower than a throttling XPS is silly to me. They both have similar hardware and they both throttle. The last MBP throttled more than the XPS, but that may be rectified with the current ones. I'm certainly not going to brag about the XPS when I know it has numerous faults. For me the XPS is the perfect size, has great battery life, a great screen, and can charge with USB-C. Those are the only reasons I have an XPS vs something else...Last edited: Jul 4, 2019Vasudev likes this. -
I'm bowing out now. I will not spinal down the rabbit hole. The freaking xps is faster than the mbp at similar tempts. No matter what those tempts are. Apples to apples. I'm not comparing a macbook at 20 to an xps at 100. Seriously.
Heads up mbp owners. Recall announced.
