Just finished installing windows 7 on my macbook and all i needed is to pop in the osx disc for the drivers. When booting theres option for mac or windows, so of course i selected windows and all i see is a blinking underscore sign with a black background? Could someone please tell me what i did wrong?

guess i'm the only one with this problem.

It may take some time too boot up. Wait.

Can you go thru the steps you took when you went thru the Bootcamp set up, and installing Windows? Did you format the partition in the Windows installer? If I recall correctly (and its been a while since I last did a Bootcamp install) you need to format the partition prior to installing the OS. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that

*in bootcamp assistant
*download windows support software. i tried both.
1. download the windows support software for this mac
i downloaded but unable to save it anywhere, got error message so i end up selecting option 2
2. i have already downloaded the windows support software to a cd dvd or external disk
*create a partition for windows
40gb for windows
*start windows installation
insert disk
in windows installation set up. i select to format the 40gb bootcamp and it began installing windows. when everything was done i ejected the windows disk and restarted the computer and held down the option key to bring up windows. i selected windows and the same happens again. blinking underscore sign?
so i booted back to osx and i went in the bootcamp windows hd and i can see folders, music, pictures etc..i know its there but no idea why i couldnt boot into windows? -
2- Go back to MAC, erase/join the current bootcamp partition. This may take less than a minute. Recreate a new bootcamp partition (40GB should be good enough, but from my experience, you may want to increase to 60GB to make sure it's not because of the volume). I tried with 40GB once and as I remembered it did not work.
3- Redo the installation process. Make sure it is completely done. Remember to choose format option for the Bootcamp partition before installation progress starts. During installation there will be reboot - NO need to hold alt-option to choose between Mac and Windows during this period.
4- See if it works. If still no luck, then the most possible reason is because you have a bad copy (im not saying non-genuine) of Windows. You know what to do now.
Let me know if these solutions work. It has been a while since my MBP got stolen -
um....i had this problem too. i don't remember how i fixed it(i ended up taking 7 hours to get the system stable
). but i did have to reinstall windows again.

any luck ?

only thing i wanted to post was after your done the first part reinstalling windows dont hit the option key. the machine will auto magically default to windows to complete the rest of the installation.
-
This is correct, let your Mac boot into windows and finish the rest of the installation. -

hey guys, i've done everything still no luck. i don't think it's a bad copy because i was able to install windows on 2 of my laptops. i might post a video on youtube so you can see for yourself. i don't know it might just be me lol

i'm going to see if i'm able to install windows vista that came with the dell laptop. not sure if it will let me. does anyone know if i can?
-
Are you installing 32-bit or 64-bit? Is it an upgrade disc, or full version?
-
-
ok so i was able to install vista 32 home premium that came when i purchased my dell laptop years ago. i think the reason i was unable to install windows 7 is bc it might be a bad copy however it had no problem installing on other pc laptops. anyway i'm glad it works and have the best of both worlds even though i wanted windows 7 instead of vista.

That's great. Congrats
