I have the new 2.2Ghz MBP. It is connected to a D-Link DGL-4300. I have had the MBP for about 3 weeks(Effing love it *switcher*). My question is that I have never had an issue with the wireless connection to my router until I installed the latest update 2 days ago (OS X updates etc). Now when I fire up the browsers(I have Safari, firefox, and Opera) for the first time it takes 10-20 seconds for the page to come up. I have also tried to pull mail when this happens and it will not d/l the mail either.

When this occurs, I have noticed that I have one bar on the signal strength missing from the icon. when it finally connects the final bar appears and all is well. this issue also happns intermittently when Im browsing if reading and doing nothing for a while.

Can anyone help me with this issue? I at first thought my router was crapping out but my other PCs connected wirelessly have no such issues.

I have done all the normal stuff such as restarts, resetting the router, and reconnecting the wireless connection. Remember this ONLY started happening AFTER the last major update 2 days ago...not before.

    thanks in advance...

There are some known issues with 10.4.10 and wireless. There was a later Airport Express update that might fix them, give it a try; if it doesn't solve it try installing a prior version like 10.4.8.

I think what is happening is that your wireless card is being put to sleep when OS X thinks you're not using it. Doing so would save energy. I would first check your energy saver settings in system preferences. If fiddling with that doesn't help then you could try reverting to an older version, or just opening up Internet Connect right before you want to connect.

Yes recently vista and newer versions of Tiger have implemented a new technique the lets the wireless card drop and reconnect in low power mode as needed. Most routers 2 years or older need a firmware upgrade to use it effectively.

Bingo! That was the one thing that I forgot. I was on Firmware 1.6 The newest version 1.8 solved this issue. thanks for the reminder folks. Now my GamerLounge router can live on, until I truly need more speed. I appreciate the help.
