Basically you will need to use DVI for the 720p picture quality. The mac doesn't have component outs either, so you can't use that option.
Buy the dvi adapter, a dvi cable then a dvi to hdmi adapter. Should cost around $50 total. Depending on how long the DVI cable is, where you buy it, and the price of the dvi to hdmi adapter.
For audio, you can use either optical out to an optical in if you have some sort of surround sound receiver, or use a mini jack to rca stereo jack. Most tvs with hdmi have the option of using rca inputs for audio (those are the red/white ones).

I would purchase a dvi to hdmi cable from newegg.com. That will take care of both video and audio (dvi has no audio). They have he best prices around. I think the shortest they sell is 6ft long but I may be mistaken. My friend just did this with his new hdtv and I looks great.

This is how I do it with my macbook: mini DVI to DVI adapter -> DVI to HDMI adapter -> HDMI cable going to the tv. Or you can buy a DVI to HDMI cable to eliminate the DVI to HDMI adapter as mentioned above to eliminate a step.

What do you mean that will take care of the audio? Does a dvi-> hdmi cable have audio cables on it? Or is it taking the output from the MB optical out and feeding it into the DVI?

About what? We have given you options. Now go to newegg or an electronics store to price your chosen setup.

    1. Mini DVI to DVI adapter ~ $19.99 from apple
    2. DVI to HDMI adapter ~ $6 from ebay or newegg
    3. HDMI cable ~ $8 from ebay

Or skip step 1 and 2 and buy a DVI to HDMI cable for ~ $8 from ebay

You'll need to buy the Mini-DVI to DVI adapter from Apple. Then get a DVI to HDMI cable here. You already have the suggestions for the audio, but if you're getting a surround sound system, just use the optical option.
