Yeah two very different things I know![]()
I have some extra cash I have saved up and this is totally a want and not a need. The tv will be nicer to play games and watch movies, but the macbook pro can do that too (if I do get the pro I'll watch blu-ray movies under bootcamp by hooking up a blu-ray player to it). The macbook pro is a heck of a lot more versatile for doing other things, but I do already have a computer that fills me needs.
I'm mainly just hoping to hear some suggestions on what you would do and why.
Oh price wise, I can get the macbook pro for a really good price. After the adc program discount+a gift card a guy is offering me with a 12% discount the macbook pro comes out to $1624 shipped with taxes. I figure if I do change my mind I probably won't take much of a hit on the computer if I sell it on ebay. What do you guys think?

HDTV+PS3 is the way to go ... I would like to own a new MBP but the difference between the old one is horrendously stupid in my honest consumer opinion.
-
Do you already have a computer? I'd have that as a priority if you don't already. Do you really need a laptop? If not, I would build a computer first, if I didn't have one already.
Then I would look at getting TV + PS3 or 360. If you have a PC already, then yeah, TV > MBP.
BTW, have you looked at the refurbed prices? $1350 for the previos $2000 MBP. $1500 for the previous $2500 version. -
Well I don't have a macbook pro old or new
My only computer is a toshiba satellite core 2 duo 1.6ghz I think, nothing special. It gets the job done though. Thanks for your opinion.
**** those are some low refurb prices. I can't say I've looked at them though. I have to pay taxes and with the adc program discount the new MBP won't be a whole lot more. I do have a pc, a laptop. It's not the fastest thing in the world and sometimes I do wish I had more speed but like I said it does get the job done. -

yeah, i wouldnt spend 2k on a new mbp if you could use a tv and a ps3. you can get a killer setup with 2k.... 52" lcd and a ps3 with blu ray. very nice!

I bought a MBP for my daughter only because of her nagging mom. -
Get macbook pro-you know that you can download blu-ray movies?I don't mean iTunes
tho iTunes is an option
-
Download blu-ray movies? You mean off of torrent sites or a legal way?
-
i listed both ways
-
Itunes is an option to download hd movies? Did I miss something? I'm checking and as far as I can tell, the only hd itunes offers is tv shows.
-
And if I'm not mistaken, itunes is only 720p. Thats hardly equal to the 1080p you get from BRD.
And if I'm not also mistaken, you are not guaranteed to have full DDS 5.1 nor does not even pretend to support any of the real HD audio codecs that BRD does. -
i though it has HD movies
-
"HD" can mean a lot of different things.
-
Tv+ Ps3 :d
-
Since you already have a laptop, I'd go for the HDTV and PS3. For a tv I'd recommend a Sony 37XBR6. If thats too big they also have a 32XBR6. I love my XBR greatly.
-
a xbox 360 is better and cod world at war is coming out
-
The main reason for me to get the ps3 is for blu-ray.
-
blu-ray is cool, but rumors are swirling about a 360 blu-ray player. I believe even a pic was released.
I'd go for 360, simply for the fact that it is winning the console war (for me)
more exclusive titles, including many ports (MGS4) to 360 and GTA VI exclusives
Better online, and for only $60 a year
Many have already cracked and modded games on 360
RRoD is overused as a stereotype, I had it once because i had it in a dusty tv stand with no ventilation (the cause of RRoD). The cause is the cooling compound melting on processor. So as long as it's out in open, you're good.
as you can probably tell, i support HDTV and console. If you want to get most bang for buck, go vizio. I got a 32" HDTV for $400, and it was compared with a pioneer TV worth much more! -
First MGS4 is not on or coming to 360. Even if Hideo Kojima wanted it to be (which he doesn't), it wouldn't even come close to fitting on a dvd-9. The game takes up a 50GB blu-ray. Not to mention the joke in MGS4 about blu-ray being superior to dvd.
Second, not only has GTA V not even come out yet let alone GTA VI, where did you hear it will be exclusive? You're the first person I've heard say this and I frequent gaming forums daily.
Third, how is the online better? Both can play online, both have stores to download things and both have voice chat. Not to mention PSN is free.
For a tv, I already suggested a Sony. Samsung is also good and a little cheaper. Vizio is last years technology rebadged as 2008. Only go Vizio if you're on a budget. Now while Vizio isn't great, it's probably one of the best budget brands. If you really want people serious about A/V, go to avsforum. They know A/V. -
If you already have a computer and it isn't hindering your productivity, get the PS3, HDTV and a Netflix account for some blu-ray goodness.

another idea: hook up your pc to your hdtv and buy an internal blu-ray rom. i've seen them go as low as 99.99
-
Well if your a console gamer go TV+PS3, but I'd rather have the MBP since I like PC games and I don't think I need to watch anything i HD at moment.
-
OF COURSE PS3 man. if you apply sony credit card, you get $150 off and 0% financing 1 year! seriously, thats $250 for a PS3 and you have a whole year to pay it off.
-
TV and PS3 for sure!
-
Well lets kill the whole console war. I'm thinking I might not even get a ps3, instead I may get a stand alone blu-ray player. As you can see gaming is a distant second in my mind. Watching blu-ray movies will be the primary purpose of the tv, I'm even getting a plasma because with the research I've done they are better and no longer suffer terrible burn-in. I won't be gaming very much so it'll be fine.
Anyways, you guys had me convinced on getting the tv+ps3 but then I asked my gf and she said, "which are you going to use more?" and the question was clear, the computer.
If I get the macbook I'll be playing some pc games which I tend to prefer, but again I'm not a big gamer, and I'll be getting an external blu-ray player to watch blu-ray movies under bootcamp. Even though I have a decent pc I would end up using the macbook pro more.
Sears is having a sale on the tv I want too but the sale ends tommorrow (saturday) and it'll be cheaper there than I could get it anywhere else (including the internet). Also the tv+ps3 combo would be cheaper leaving mean with a bigger budget for movies and music and toys
. Still though I'd love to own a mac. Excuse me while I drive myself mad trying to make up my mind.

Think i am going to get the 17 inch for the wife still
Help me make a choice? Macbook Pro or HDTV+PS3?
