I have a registered version of Fusion. I installed it on my MBP, but when it came time to install Win Pro I received a fatal error:

Installation Failed D:\I386asms: Error Message: Incorrect Function
    Fatal Error
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.
    Incorrect Function

Does anyone have a clue on what's going on?

Does your Windows XP Pro disk have Service Pack 2 with it? If not, you will have to first create a slip-streamed copy. Here is a link to how to do this.

I'll have to experiment with VMWare Fusion's wizard to create a pure virtual machine of Windows XP... I've done it through Boot Camp only so far.
