Right now i'm really boiled down to 2 laptops. the MBP and t he SonySZ7. I was almost pulling the trigger on the SZ, however, i heard about the student discount and the MBP ''might be' cheaper than the SZ that way..
anyways. i was wondering if the refresh will be within the month or not.. as in speculations since i can wait but not too long.
Btw. i heard from someone that they bought a MBP on the apple site using student discount for $1500-ish.. wth![]()

Awesome laptops Notebook Evangelist
what happened with the m1330 it was probably the best of the 3 you mentioned before
-
Keep in mind the membership itself costs US$99. -
-
can someone please explain the student developer hardware purchase program... I looked at the site but I'm still a little confused. I am a student... and would like a MB pro before the end of March
-
The question is, are you a student that knows how to program?
-
^ lol are they gonna give u a test or something?
-
Probably not, but you should learn how to use XCode if you use the discount
-
There probably is going to be a MacBook Pro update soon...I don't think Apple would wait any longer than now.
And yeah, ADC + Student Discount is how most get it down to that price. If I remember correctly though, you can only use the ADC discount once, and that would be the time, whereas with Student Discount you can discount everytime you purchase. -
i see. .
how long do you think apple is gonna drag this update till Sam? -
-
stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
-
xD... dam i guess ill give it couple more weeks..
i dun want to feel consumers remorse ..
come on Jobs.. give some jabs! -
Ah, the mbp refresh....the source of all things rumours at this point in time.
A few weeks ago I was certain they would announce the refresh with Penryn any day now but come this Tuesday (the 26th) if they don't announce anything then I'm beginning to think that the other rumour of holding off on the refresh till late spring/early summer, for a complete redesign based on the Montevina platform, is becoming more plausible.
Personally, that rumour is becoming more and more appealing as time goes on.
I just think that the MBP design/specs while dated are still killers compared to the other crap on the market out there. Just my opinion. -
yea.. if they dun refresh it then surely they are waiting for the complete refresh... dam.. summer..
i guess they dun want to waste unneeded resources, even if it means to sacrifice a bit in the sales -
So you spend $100 to save $300 from the normal student discount, so you just buy the ADC membership and there is a code or a link or something? Im going to buy a MBP with the student discount but why not save more money?
-
^yea i think thats how it works.. not too sure personally though.
-
hmm i have a question.
say.. will it work if i do the ADC Student Membership + Student Developer Hardware Purchase Program for the US while im a Canadian student, have them send everything to my friend's house, apply the code, buy the MBP, let my friend say they are going to a tour to canada and using the MBP and i pick it once she is in canada..
what about the warranty and stuff..? voided? -
Don't get caught by customs unless you enjoy prostate exams.
You're gonna have a hard time buying it with the student discount, the ADC discount AND getting it shipped to a US address so you can pay the US price.
With very few exceptions, Apple won't ship to an address that the card isn't getting the bill sent to. Your only chance is to talk to them on the phone, hope you don't have a funny accent, and tell them you are a student at a Canadian college but you are staying with family in the US until the summer semester. You'll might have to wait for the Spring semester to be over for that to work.... -
but if i let someone do all that for me? (like a REAL US college student) and then when they come to Canada i just pay them the money.. can apply warranty be transfered and used in canada that way?
-
Oh, in that case, yes, you can let somebody else buy it for you.
The warranty should still be valid too, but make sure you are the one to register it just incase.
Just be careful of the dreaded customs agents at the border. They've ruined a great day or two in my life. Just remember, it's all about saying the right things to make them not question anything.
(And when your friend comes over, make sure nothing else is sketchy in the car... The last time they searched me, I had two other guys in the car with me, and they found rubber gloves, vaseline, and condoms... That looked awkward!) -
LOL! rubber glove+vaseline+condoms.. =?
what did you mean register.. for what? -
The rubber gloves and vaseline were for when I work on cars at a friend's house (Rubber gloves keep the hands cleaner, and vaseline will take away grease before using soap). The condoms... well, that's just incase I find a blind woman.
When you get a new Apple product, you get to register it for warranty purposes (Helps you and Apple pinpoint when the computer was bought if you don't have the receipt). If you register it in your name, with your Canadian address, you'll have "less problems". More or less, it's just an "incase" thing. -
ah i see. . would say go like... " oh.. you register a canadian address.. why not just buy it from apple.ca?
btw. for um the ADC discount, if the US version is bought when i get it from my friend can i still buy its product in canada? or do i have to buy the canadian version? or it doesnt matter? o and lastly; if i buy the canadian version of it; will it be possible to use it to discount a US MBP? (which i doubt.. xD) -
You'll have to use the US version of the discount I believe if you buy it in the US. They won't care if you register it in Canada or not, because you could have moved there shortly after buying it. They aren't going to look into it.
-
ahaha perfect then.
now all i hope is that MBP does get a upgrade instead of July ._. -
has anybody used the student discount + the ADC discount on the new refresh of the macbook pro?
-
You may want to make a new thread about that, Tippy.
Hmm.. need some advices.
