Well hopefully tonight I will own my first Mac. I am going for the 17" MBP and I will decide on glossy vs matte tonight at the apple store. I wanted to know what a good mouse (wireless or bluetooth) would be as the reviews on the mighty mouse make it seem like a bad purchase. I use to have a g7 from logitech so if all fails I will go with that again.
-
go for the matte screen if you do not want glare! have you looked at microsoft bluetooth mouse? its a pretty cool small mouse
-
I will wait for now because Apple is going to rollout a new mouse very soon.
-
I am a big guy w/ big hands and the tiny little meeces drive me crazy. Is the mighty mouse really as bad as they say?
-
I'm using it now and the scroll ball always stuck... I tried to clean up and only last for couple days.
-
I dont think I could handle that, how long do the batteries last?
-
I am just excited to go up to the store and finally get one. I just want a rock solid machine that is light and lasts for a while. I plan on doing some development as I am workingon learning java and I write a ton of papers in grad school. The 17" will look normal w/ me sitting behind it I think. It is replacing my desktop so I am pretty stoked. I am excited to mess w/ garage band as well.
-
Does anyone know how warcraft plays on the new mbp 17"?
-
it is supposed to be playable on high settings, at least on the 15", but i doubt the 17" will be able to max out this game on native resolution...i have never tried...
-
is the video card that bad? or is it just one of the limitations w/ it. I just want to be able to play it w/out too much lag.
-
You can use any USB or Bluetooth mouse you want. Feel free to visit a local computer store and grope all the mice they have. Find one you like, and it will work with a Mac just fine.
The "performance" GPU in the Macbook Pro is the 9600M GT. This is a thoroughly mid-range video chipset. World of Warcraft is not a particularly demanding game, so I don't see it being much trouble even at 1920x1200. I would not set your expectations too high though. -
I am use to it on 1680x1050, I just want a nice solid machine that is no hassle. Plus its nice and light and has great battery life so I can actually get stuff done w/out being tied to my desk. I have wanted a mbp for a long long time.
-
Most likely you're text will be blurry if you run it at a non-native resolution. I really like the 17" MBP for its light and slim form factor. The battery life don't hurt either.
-
That is what drew me to it as well, I will know when I get to the apple store tonight if it is a fit or not. I am pretty sure I will be pleased.
-
Honestly, I"m not exactly sure why people get the Mighty mouse. Its quite expensive and Logitech and MS has great alternatives.
I'm using a vx nano right now and I love it to death. -
I HATE the mighty mouse its way too clumsy and innacurate... and I guess it cant be called the mighty mouse either now. Man and Machine, a company that builds peripherals for hospitals and labs now has the trademark for " Mighty Mouse"

lol. also dont play with you notebook on your lap...your legs will get fried and no, the 9600m gt is not bad, it is pretty decent but releases quite a lot of heat...
-
Any good coolers or lap pads out there? I figured I will mess around layin gin bed every once in a while
-
hey you mean world of warcraft or warcraft XD? If you mean world of warcraft, I am sure you will get mid to high setting in raid since I am using a last generation macbook, and it is doing fine in wow normal activities.
-
you have to take into consideration that you have a much lower resolution than him and increasing the resolution affects game performance. i have never used a notebook cooler but i believe many people use griffin elevator. if you want a cooler, i know enermax aeolus has a huge fan which will most probably help in cooling your mac..
-
whats the Mighty Mouse have to do with a 17" MBP? It doesn't come with one, and theres no reason to buy one... the trackpad is awesome, but if you really want an external mouse for anything, get any mouse you want, you aren't forced to buy Apple branded. I have a logitech I use for games, and it works great. I have a Mighty Mouse someone gave me for free, and it is the worst thing I've ever used. I've tried to give it away 3 times myself and no one wants it.
-
give it to me..

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
The 9600m gt is a decent mobile mid ranger, but it's certainly not meant for gaming at 1920x1200 or even 1680x1050.
it could be fine anyway for wow...
Have you considered a 15" + external monitor? -
Since the OP asked for recommendations on a wireless mouse, here's my 2 cents:
I use Logitech MX Revolution mice at my office with my 15" MBP and at home with my XPS desktop. The settings for each button is the same which makes it very easy to use both mice at both locations. I used to carry a Logitech VX Revolution with my XPS m1330, but I sold it since I bought my MBP. The track pad is very good and I dont need a mouse. However, I still carry a Logitech MX Anywhere in my bag if I need to work on Photoshop at places other than my office. MX Anywhere is a replacement for VX Nano and it's a great mouse. I highly recommend it. If you find it too small for your hand, you might want to look into VX Revolution, even though it is now discontinued.
Good luck with your purchase tonight (whether it will be a glossy or matte 17" MBP)! -
I went with a glossy, I find myself working on a lot of projects for school and the more real estate I have to work with the better. I am not a graphics designer or anything yet but I have had to do it quite a bit in the past so I went with the best I could afford. I really enjoy the mbp, I only play warcraft so I am not too worried about hardcore gaming on it. I do have a windows pc w/ a 9800gt in it at the moment and it plays all the games out right now
-
Congrats. I actually don't mind the glossy screen. I had the matte screen on my old SR MBR and I used to be a big proponent of the matte option but now I have no issues with the glossy one at all. Got it calibrated fine although I have to say it was easier to calibrate the matte screen. But I like how I can just wipe the glass clean now, so much easier than when I had to clean the old screen. Also the glass enclosure without any seams makes the display piece more durable.
-
Yeah I am not outside too much and when I am inside the lights are overpowering enough for me. What does calibrating a monitor do?
-
I calibrated my screen for the sole purpose of matching screen output to print output; what you see on screen will be what you see on print. It's easier said than done but fortunately there are many tools to do that, some are purely software but some better options are both hardware and software-based, like the Spyder.
Hopefully new MBP owner
