I know there have been a number of posts regarding the MBP getting hot when pushed, but how are they under a minimal load? For instance, if only surfing the internet or wordprocessing, will the palm rest areas and keyboard get hot or uncomfortably warm?
-
I wouldn't worry about it at all. The MB and MBP mostly get hot in the bottom casing, not the palmrest. And if you still find the MB and MBP too hot, you can adjust the fan speeds with SMCFanControl. I adjusted my fans to 3600 RPM, and its still real quiet and 10 C cooler than usual.

The area to the left of the trackpad gets slightly warmer than the opposing side, due to the location of the hard drive. Neither side is uncomfortable though. Since you only type with your fingertips (at least that's how I do) you hardly notice any warmth from the keyboard at all. I believe the warmest location that your hands may accidentally touch is the area directly above the F1-F12 keys. This area gets fairly hot when under intense load. Really, there is nothing to worry about

is 3600 the highest one should set the fans?
-
On the macbook is 6200, maybe it's the same on the mbp.
-
The fans can go up to 6200 RPM, but I wouldn't recommend constantly running it at that speed. 20-30 minutes, okay, but for hours at a time, I'd say no.
I like 3600 RPM because its a pretty nice sweet spot; the fans are still very quiet but the Mac is kept cool as well. -
When the fans run at 3600 rpm, is there a noticeable decrease in battery life? If not, how much battery life do you lose?
Also, I thought they fixed the heat issues in revision D, but maybe I'm mistaken. Correct me if you have any info on that. -

they did correct them but they still do get warm but really every laptop ive ever used got warm.
-
I want to know also!

I don't notice any major decrease in battery life...but I keep the fans at default speeds (around 1800-2000 RPM) when I'm on battery, because the MacBook is cooler anyways when on battery.

When I run WoW on my macbook it pretty much constantly runs over 5500 rpm's so far i've seen the same with the MBP. Either way warranty will cover it.
