I'm so annoyed that I can't figure this out. I want to change the default application association to a particular file extension.

Specifically, I want my Mac to ALWAYS use NeoOffice to open any file I double click open that has a *.doc extension.

I changed the file association for a specific file by ctrl clicking the file, selecting Open With --> Other, and then telling it I want NeoOffice to ALWAYS open that file... but when I double click other *.doc files they still open with TextEdit by default.

I can't seem to find a place to globally change this. I know it exists and it's probably very easy, but I'm frustrated and annoyed.

    *sigh*

    Thanks for your help!

Go to the file that you want you associated with the program, do either a right click or control + click to bring up the contextual menu, select Get info

Now find 'Open with' and if its not expanded, do so select the program you want to use, and if you want all files of that type to open with it hit the Change all button. There you go all done.
