I read on Apple.com that the response time is 14ms, I find that number extremely disappointing since all decent LCD lately are around 4ms(gray to gray). Is Apple using a different system to count the response time?
" The Samsung SyncMaster 245BW is a 24-inch wide TFT-LCD monitor delivering an ultra-fast response time of 5ms, DC 3000:1 contrast ratio, 0.270mm pixel pitch, 1920 x 1200 maximum resolution" and goes FOR UNDER $500. For example. But you can find tons of displays much cheaper than Apple (of course) but still delivering around 4-6ms response time.
Will this 24" from Apple work properly under Vista (considering the camera/speakers I mean)?

I believe apple panels are true 8-bit panels, whereas most monitor are 6-bit. Color on the apple displays is absolutly gorgeous.

response time is another one of those bs specs given out by manufacturers. in theory, the human eye can't detect anything below 16 ms or so. the reason its 14ms is because its a high quality panel. most panels that have excellent color reproduction have higher response times. TN panels, the cheapest and worst looking, have response times ~2-5 ms, but you will immediately notice a difference in quality if you put the apple display next to a TN panel display.
-
Because its not using a crappy TN panel? Also take the advertised specs of LCD panels with a grain of salt. There are no standards of measurement so you can't compare LCD A from company X to LCD B from company Y from specifications on paper.

OK, so it's a good screen then? I will stop by Apple Store once they get it, I would like to get 2 of them if they really are as good as you guys describe. I know color quality of the 23" is great but I never really tried to see how is the response time/feedback on them.
Can I use this webcam on it under vista? Can I use more than one display with the new MBP? Is there some connector to split the signal between 2 external display (like 2 of this 24" monitor or smaller, not talking about the 30" displays)? -
Response times are mainly interesting if you're into gaming.
If you're into gaming I would advice you to wait untill some proper reviews have been done. They can say if it's suitable for gaming. -
Actually, the truth of this all is because Apple is honest in its specification listings. The 24ms response time is BLACK to WHITE, which is VERY different than GREY to GREY response time which manufacturers love to tout.
For example, Dell's latest display, the 2408WFP is rated at 6ms, but that's grey to grey. It's 16ms black to white. So the Apple display being rated at 14ms black to white is probably in the region of 4ms grey to grey.
You can read about that sort of thing here.

So again, don't get caught up on the response times. The Apple displays are stunning. I'm seriously considering upgrading my 23" to the new 24". -

Rule of thumb...
The faster the response rate of an LCD, the worse it's color reproduction. Apple Cinema Displays are not sold to be used as gaming monitors. They are sold for pro graphic designers / artists.
IMHO, its not worth buying a high end panel like this unless you are really big into photography and graphic design. Or just have the disposable income... -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Do you have display port? If not you have to go through an adaptor. IMHO for the price and knowing the Apple markup, I am willing to bet it is just a *VA panel like the Dell 2408WFP. I wouldn't buy this Apple panel, I'd go for something with more inputs and similar quality that costs a few hundred less. If you want to spend in the ~$1000 range, you can get the NEC 2490WUXi S-IPS. Best 24" on the market imo.

Reponse time isn't a huge deal, especially with the way they market these specifications. 8000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, so not really 8000:1, but kinda...under our settings.
Apple's Cinema Displays are more expensive than most of the consumer displays because they're not consumer displays. They use S-IPS panels, which have much better colour reproduction than TN panels of the consumer Dells, LGs and Samsungs. -
My biggest question is what is the Mini Display port to DVI situation going to be?
I am talking about using this new display with an older model MBP, I would imagine they will have that type of adapter at some point.
also, I really hope they release a whole size range of displays as well. I won't be selling my 20" Cinema Display any time soon but I would definitely love one of these.
the included magsafe adapter is genius.
How come the new 24" Apple Display is that slow?
