Do you mean transferring AppleCare from the original owner to you? If so, here's the text from my AppleCare agreement WRT transfers:

Darn, he's the original owner, but it was a present from his grandmother, and I doubt she still has the receipt.

I called Apple today, I gave them the original owners name and they transfered it into my name.

The rep I spoke to said I didn't need to transfer the ownership to utilize the warranty.

I just called them up, gave them the serial and my phone number (it was in the registry form) and then they transfered it to my friend when I asked.

AFAIK, The warranty follows the laptop, not the owner.

I had no problems transferring the warranty to myself. I simply called Apple Support and provided them with the necessary information to transfer the warranty to me. There was no complex process for it. I think it was just the SN, my info and the previous owners info.
