What do you do with it?
Leave the charger plugged on for the night? remove it? shut it down?
I personally leave the charger on and put it to sleep (as in, close the lid)
I get enough use from the battery anyways, i use it almost daily during college
Want to know if leaving it on the charger overnight is a bad idea (i do sometimes, plug if off it)
-
I do the same as you do; leave it charging and close the lid. I'm still getting the same battery time with 35 cycles as the first day I got it.
I don't think it would hurt it, but just remember to calibrate your battery every once in a while.

I leave it on and listen to music until I fall asleep

Leaving your Macbook plugged into a charger is fine. And I'm certain most users leave their Macbooks in sleep mode while plugged in when they're not using it.

I usually either leave the charger in or out, the machine on, off, or asleep, and the lid either opened or closed.
-
Well, I have a MacBook, but what I do is lid closed, Sleep mode, charger, put something over the Sleep light and the green charger light
.
-
I keep the lid open, sleep my macbook and leave the charger plugged in.
-
I used to save-quit all the apps and sleep. But since switching all the Crapbooks over to the Vertex SSD's, startup is no longer a big deal at all - so I tend to shut them down these days when I finish using one for the day.
-
I just shut down and start up in the morning

i usually either shut it down fully, or leave it on as it converts/downloads things.

heh I don't even remember the last time I shutdown/restarted my MBP. It's always either on or sleeping and overnight I usually have the charger plugged in. Battery life has remained excellent and battery health is still over 90%. Plus I love the pulsating white light.
-
i just leave it on 24/7
-
Usually I leave it on if I know I won't be transporting it anywhere. During transport, I put it in sleep by closing the lid. The only time that I shut it off is during takeoffs/landings in planes, or when I forget to charge it when on the road.

I just shut the lid on my macbook, and open it in the morning. I never really shut my computer down unless I have too. Why would you need to unplug it though?
Sometimes I forget to close it and I have it set not to turn off or go to sleep and when I use it the next day its really hot and tired. I feel kind of bad for it making it work all night so I use my other computer and give it a rest.

Thanks for the replys, calibration is a pain at times, it takes too long to set up!!
But still i will calibrate it, they recommend once every 30 cycles right? I am on my 11th -
if its charged, i put it to sleep and unplug hte charger.

whats calibration ?

I leave mine running 24/7. Zero downtime.
-
I leave it on standby (just close the lid). I don't think it chews much power this way, and then it auto-ons when I lift the lid and I can start work immediately!
-
When I'm done, it gets shut off and either plugged in (If the battery is low) or put away. I don't like to leave any computer running.
-
I leave mine on 24/7, I just walk away and let the screens turn off. I don't close the lid because I don't want to disconnect from the internet.
-
I leave it however it was when I walked away earlier
-
I always leave mine sleeping, even if it sits in a bag for days.
I don't have it set where there is any way it can wake up accidentally.. no wake on network.. no bluetooth, etc... been doing this with Apple laptops for about 7 years and have never had a problem. -

I power down once finished and plug-in with lid slightly open.
This may sound a little crazy, but two years ago when my cell phone's LCD display burned out, the repair tech asked if I had been charging my Nokia 'clamshell' type phone with the phone on and the lid closed. Of course I had been and from what he stated was that while the phone was charging, there is a build up of heat on the surface of the keypad, which actually burns out the LCD screen over time.
Could charging a laptop in sleep mode with the lid closed be a bad thing for the LCD screen? I am not 100% certain, but I am not risking the $$$ to find out.
Anyone else have any input regarding this?

I always just close the lid, and restart my computer when I install an important update or when the computer seems sluggish. I always turn off my laptop when I am transporting it.

Since I switched to an Intel SSD, bootup time is so fast that I just shut my Mac down rather then sleep it after a day's work.
How do you leave your macbook pro overnight?
