I just wonder how many people really in favor of the glossy screen of Unibody MBP.
This thread may benefit for people who are in the market for a macbook/macbook pro since the config is close to be the same and the main difference is the screen.

I would actually prefer the old one. I like the look of a full glass panel and everything, but yeah, the reflections are so strong...

Are we talking ONLY about the old glossy screen? not the matte?

I only have a Macbook and since it's my first apple, I can't comment on whether it's better or not. I can say it really doesn't bother me, but I'm pretty self absorbed and don't pay much attention to what's going on around me. :D :D :D

glossy look cosmetically better, but the subtleness of matte from previous mbp is what i found more suited for me

unibody is a nice design, really great design though :)

50 - 50... heh, I'm not surprised. I really can't say which I like more, I still haven't seen one in person. Yesterday I saw a Sony Z at the mall, I fell in love with it's screen (16:9), size and weight! I thought maybe I could get an iMac for home and the Sony Z for work. I think the reflections of a macbook pro would really bother me if I'm working while being driven somewhere during the day.

I sow one in-person yesterday, and in our "very bright" apple store it looked better then previous one.And reflections on my HDX are worse then on MBP's screen IMO!

I loved the matte screens but the new screens on the unibody mbp is absolutely gorgeous. Crazy saturated, blacks are freakin black and whites are blindingly white.

Also when you use the mbp at home 99% of the time I dont notice the glare. In fact I totally forgot about the glare until someone mentioned it on the threads.

I'm sitting on a Red Arrow bus right now traveling from Calgary to Edmonton Alberta. There's huge windows all around me and it's bright outside......

I really can't say that the glare is causing me ANY difficulty or problems viewing the screen. Yes I can tell that there is a reflection, but it's not bad enough to a) complain about or b) to prevent me from doing what I need to.

My screen brightness is set at one setup over half-way.

I like glossy screens, but I feel as if the MBPs are a little too glossy.

Seems like I'm getting a lot more reflections than with my Aluminum iMac.

I like it a lot better. Not sure why people are complaining about it. I have it on full brightness, with fluorescent lights around me, and I'm not squinting or complaining about the reflections.

I have a quick question: Is led usually have a longer life than CCFL light?

Both screens are really nice, but the older matte screen has a certain distinction and appeal, perhaps precisely because it doesn't zing in such a commercial way. It seems far more professional as well as practical. Again, they're both excellent in my view.

LEDs don't dim over time, whereas CCFLs do.

i actually don't mind the reflections, its not as bad as other people point out to be. well, i don't know about the MBP's though, i saw a thread here before about the super glossy screen, and it is indeed very glossy. :)

Not very significant, you'll start to feel it slightly after around a year, but its not a dealbreaker in my opinion. Of course I would rather have LED-backlighting :p.

I love the new screens because the colors are so vibrant, but then again when your a professional that works with PS, I guess it's a pain in the rump to deal with glossy.

I personally don't mind glossy screens but I can see how some hate them. I do wish Apple gave the option.

i saw the new unibody range sometimes ago. and i must say that the reflection is extremely strong, i was expecting the reflection will be subdued with a green/purple hue of an AR coating, but it was not! it was like a mirror, and i can still see a reflection of my face even with the screen turned up, although im suspecting playing with the angle of the screen will help a lot. this is a lot worse than the old apple glossy screen, which i did not mind that much at all.

however, saying that, i liked the new glass covering on the screen, i assume this will make the screen somewhat more resistant to scratches. and im quite sure that these new screen are easier to keep clean, especially coz the lack of the bezel to hide the dust and what not.

give it a better AR coating then i cant complaint.

i didnt check for colour accuracy though, is it better than the old one? is the tonal value more accurate than the old one, or is it look over-saturated...

after a while, I want to bring up another question behind the thread. If you are in a market for a macbook pro, which one should we choose? the Unibody or the old version?

I really like the new screen! When I use my mac is not like I'm paying attention to the reflection :p and I love the colors, they're really nice... My other notebook has matte screen, and now when I compare them, I'll go definitely for this screen.
One of my friends has the old MBP, and we both agree that the new MBP is sexier :) and seems to be way more resistant thanks to the unibody piece... Maybe I would change the color of the keyboard, I liked it silver, nvm I still like it a lot.

I agree. I can understand why some people hate it with a passion. I played with my friend's new MBP and noticed that I had to lower the lights in his room to get the best - no glare effect. Even my old glass covered CRT eMac does not need this kind of environmental lighting adjustment to avoid glare and reflections.

I can't really comment on the Macbook Pros... but my brother just bought a new unibody Macbook and I can say without a doubt that the new Macbook screens are MUCH better than any previous Macbook (or Macbook Pro). Compared to my Macbook White (late 2007), the new Macbook screens are much brighter and vibrant... they almost blind me at max brightness (in normal lighting)

The reflection wasn't much of an issue for me. Granted, I was only using it for several minutes... but again, the brightness and clarity of the screen kept my eyes off of the "distracting" reflections.
