I have some audio books I want to put on my ipod but how will itunes know they are audio books and not music mp3's?
I transfered some from Anthony Robbins but it puts them in the music selection. I went into preferences and turned on the audio book tab and dragged and dropped them in there and it still put them in music.

(This was on Windows) Following a guide from some website, I used iTunes to convert my mp3s to AAC, and then renamed them to a m4b extension. When I added the newly created files to my library, they showed up as audiobooks.

can I just rename my .mp3's to .m4b?

I don't know, but I believe the m4a files (what you get before renaming to m4b) allow for extra data for bookmarking and things, so probably no.

how do I convert them on a mac?

How does iTunes know what .mp3's are audio books and what is music?
