Due to the recession, Apple is decreasing their sales with in the last few months. And Jobs is out of the board for now.
Summer with go to school deal is always best Apple's deal. Do you think that Apple will make their deal even more attractive to re-gain their revenue?
Sure that Apple have their back with the release of Snow Leopard and rumors of new Iphone & Apple "net-book" will be released eventually. Therefore, price decrease the price wont happened.
P/s: I am not planning to buy any apple products this summer. I just want to hear people's opinions with my idea. In memory of my 1,000 posts :D

I think Apple is going to follow a similar strategy to Sony. Sony has been struggling with PlayStation 3 sales and decided it's better to add to the overall package than to lower the price. So instead of lowering the price they feel the better strategy is to give the consumer a bigger hard drive and bundle it with some games.

I see Apple going in this direction unless the economy goes into an all out depression. If you look at the 24" imac for instance you get a decent GPU, 4GB of memory and a 620GB hard drive along with a decent CPU. That's not too shabby for $1,499. ;)

I don't think they'll decrease significantly. They may drop by $100, or they may stay the same price. The thing is, people who were on a tight budget weren't the ones buying MacBooks and MacBook Pros anyway...sure there were special cases but most people buying Macs are not on a tight tight budget. Of course, people will buy less Macs (and computers and electronics in general), but I doubt Apple is strongly worried.

Plus, Apple has over $25 billion cash-on-hand, so they have no worries of bankruptcy. That $25 billion can sustain for a long time.

Agree that cash is king, but keeping 25 billion $ dollars in hand for a long time is a bad idea.

I personally believe that the entire electronic industry is going to take a hit this laptop season. Not only are laptop sales going to significantly drop, but everything from games to plasma TVs. Apple, along with Sony, Dell, etc, are all going to have to either a)buckle down and hope they don't hit "0," or have to drop prices / increase value with their products. Apple may have $25B in the bank, but that doesn't mean that they won't have to re-think their strategy in regards to their prices.

The federal government printed $1 trillion last Wednesday and will add it to the economy this thursday. What that equals is a rise in inflation. Basically, in 2000, $1,000,000 would buy you 4,000,000 packs of gum. Now, in 2009, that same $1,000,000 would only buy you 3,250,000 packs of gum. What that means is that if that rate continues, Apple will actually LOSE money from that $25B due to inflation - they won't be able to get as much with it.

nah, dont see any price drops in the future. perhaps some deals can be had in the future (rebates with ipods akin to the back-to-school special, etc) but nothing beyond that. apple has always been on a high horse and i dont see em getting off.

I think Apple will offer some sort of netbook at some point, as the rumors suggest. It might be a bit different from other netbooks, it might be a tablet... but something in between an iPod Touch and a Macbook in size, price, and capabilities.

So, that's not necessarily a price decrease... but it would be a lower-cost option for portable computing.

    +1 for that :D

So you said that Apple will try to make revenue out of a new market, instead of trying make more money out of the old market.

Apple will raise prices, never lower prices. They have always been and always will be more expensive than similarly built computers.

Apple: Ripping off loyal Mac users for 25+ years.

Ok, that's not necessarily a "bad" idea to keep cash. You said it as in they're not supposed to have any. You're just saying cash loses it's value if it's just sitting there not making any money. It's no where near "bad idea" to be in good liquidation. Having 25B in cash is not a bad idea, not doing anything with it is not a bad idea...bad idea is to spend it and stupid things that could possibly put yourself in the hole.

Anyone can grasp the concept that money loses it's value over time...you just made it sound like it's a horrible idea to have cash.

Their cash has been going down btw, they had more $25B at some point last year.

yes its all about investing it and having a good amount of it liquid at any given time. a particularly good investment is giving me around $1b.

Actually that is not true at all, I don't believe Apple has raised any prices on its products in years. It either stays the same or is decreased.

I agree. Since the powerbook days and comparing to now the macbook pros are priced the same. But as for the mac pro desktops Apple has increased their prices which is a shame.

I really want to buy one of the new Nehalem Octo models but everytime I see the prices and how much intel charges for those chipsets, its way too overpriced. I'll wait a few more months especially after intel officially releases the xeon nehalems this april, maybe apple will do a silent update on the mac pro lines with a bit lowered prices.

Hopefully they will introduce minor changes on the mac pro desktops in the WWDC announced for june 8th.

Obviously Apple will use that $25B to make more money, but the fact remains that they will have to lower their prices to do so. Sales on electronics - high end ones at least- are dropping dramatically, and in order to appeal to a greater audience, Apple is going to have to lower their prices. The only reason I even brought up that example is because someone asked why it would be bad for Apple to just sit on their money.

The fact that Apple has great hardware and support, they do not need to. They have a great following and if someone wants a Mac, they will get it. The catagory that they have put them selfs in is the novelty catagory which make people feel cool and have the feel that they have something different.

apple cant lower price on their macs, ipods maybe.
hp is the only pc maker in usa can make money from increased units sale.
neither apple nor dell do, they will lose money if lowering price on macs or latitudes.

You are wrong. Apple has dropped priced on iPods and iPhones before. They dropped priced on the white Macbook when the Aluminum ones came out. They don't normal drop priced on current notebooks because they update them and keep the price the same.
